jamesmark
I recently bought some 17" wheels of a member on here, who will remain nameless. This is not a rant as a deal was made once the condition of the tyres was established so both parties happy. The plan was that these were to bolt straight on and were described as the rears are just legal, which is fair enough. This is purely to remind people to get your tracking done and on regular intervals check your tyre wear, as the seller had no idea that the tyres were this bad. Do not just assume they are fine. Tyres are at the stage of a blow out happening at any time. On the 2nd picture just below the middle you can see an object, I dunno if that is the metal inner of the tyre coming through or the end of a nail. Look after yourselfs. Pixelfill
Easily done, especially with oversize wheels. Good heads up Mike
Pete
Wow, that's very uneven wear.
drnas78
after working in tyre trade 5 years its suprising how we forget to maintain most important car bits tyres brakes lights , but consentrate on making it look
Pixelfill
Q: Is this wear pattern symptomatic of bad geometry or incorrect tyre inflation? Mike
RedM
These tyres were off stock 17s so nothing to do with oversized wheels. Geometry issue due to lowered suspension?
jamesmark
I would say it is geometry as it is the same all the way round.
gaz1
i got the lad some 19" wheels with very good tyres on in feb last year, we went to marham and one of the lads had looked under his car at his exaust and he noticed his tyres and they were worse than that, just shows you look right across the wheel not just the bit you can see easily;)
Pixelfill
These tyres were off stock 17s so nothing to do with oversized wheels. Geometry issue due to lowered suspension? Yeah I appreciate that, I was commenting on my own experiences - I didn't notice the uneven wear on my car which was running 18s and the tread wear was the same. Any changes to the car suspension (if the geo is uncorrected) will lead to some peculiar tyre wear. Lowered suspension, oversized wheels etc. Mike

Ian W
Deffo bad geometry imo. Both my fronts had worn like this and were toe out on both sides.
heckler
I can beat that - not that I'm proud of it, my old front tyre I had gone though the canvas, and the metal reinforcement, I could almost poke my fingers straight though - oops. I have new tyres on now. check you geo, especially if you've lowered or changed the susspension - like me. Trashed the tyres in 4 months.
SMiFFAD
CHanged my rear pads last week and found exactly the same I knew they were low, but they were "just" legal from the bits i could see/feel... on the inside was a different story though! Check thy tyres if they are anywhere near getting low on the outside - especially if like me your cars lowered.
Ian C
I got caught out once with my fronts, the inner part had the metal wires showing. I felt quite sick and ashamed, I had the car up on the jack for a different job as well so it was just luck I spotted it - the outer edge still had about 3mm of tread. Car went nowhere until I had new tyres to go on! I also upped the tyre pressure to 34psi at the front and that, along with keeping a good alignment, has pretty much eliminated uneven front wear -Ian
