cheekymonkey
Desperately need working HIDs within a month for a trip to the Isle of Man If I can't replace the bulbs on their own does anyone have a good quality HID kit for sale? Must wire straight in to the j-spec looms with no relays etc, and fit into my j-spec facelift headlights properly. My current set are a bit of a bodge anyway by the looks of them. Nic
I've sent you details of the HID kit I supply.
Lukeyboy2k
Throughout my Supra ownership I've purchased 4 HID kits. 1) Visionbulbs kit ~ £93 delivered - INCLUDING RELAY HARNESS. Best performing so far, no issues. I think these were from the Far East. 2) Kit from ebay China jobbie - no relay. Worked OK, then after 3months a ballast developed the high pitch whine, but lights still work. Interferes with radio reception on FM. £60 delivered. 3) As kit number 2. Performed OK. Removed all lights for car re-spray. After re-installation, one light worked intermittently. Upon investigation found arcs of electricity going between ballast and chassis. Not good - decided to remove ballast. 4) Another ebay jobbie from China. Appears to be exactly the same quality as kits 2 & 3. Cost £40 delivered - very quick delivery. As yet not installed or tested, can supply linky if required. (only really bought it for spare bulbs and replacement ballast). If I needed a brand new kit I would recommend one with a relay harness - I gather these are less likely to mess with your electrics (e.g. spike ECU). Nic
The best HID kits are from Japan, but they are expensive. I wouldn't buy a China made HID kit most are cheap, but are poor quality and unreliable. Taiwan and Korea both make affordable, good quality, reliable kits. cheekymonkey
Cheers all I feel like I'm slowly getting to the bottom of this. Can I just ask a dumb question though - when you have the correct fitting bulbs, do they twist and lock securely in to the headlight? The ones I have currently do not fit properly, I have to unscrew the black ring which is part of the headlight, and use that to clamp down which plays havoc with alignment and makes them wobble sometimes over speedbumps
Matt _Aero top_
sounds like the wrong bulb fitment mate , you say you have facelift , not 100% sure but i think they should be 9006's , only thing i had to do was change the little red 'o' ring seal as it was to tight , i just swopped it with my old standard bulbs . cheekymonkey
From what I can see the standard fitment is 9006J but 9005's will fit with persuasion (thanks Nic ) I have no idea what bulbs I have in there but I will try and find out
