"Turned out nice again"

Well, I don't have as much as I would have liked due to a house sale falling through. :( But you do not need a lot to be able to live comfortably out here and even on the lowly wages of a waiter, you can still save enough to just about get by through the winter.

To give you an idea, I earn about 1000 euro per month when working. I also get a share of tips which is about another 150 euro PCM. I get my lunch and evening meal paid for and I get my drinks for free. I also had an end of season bonus of about 400 euro.

During the season, my expenses are quite small as my rent is only 250 euro PCM and water / electricity is cheap. I guess I save about 650 pcm during this time so that ends up in a pot of about 4500 euro at the end of the season.

If I don't go crazy, I can easily live on 700 pcm out of season so yes, you can live out here on the summer wages. I also pay IKE (like our NI contributions) and that entitles me to unemployment benefit after I have worked 2 full seasons.

Sounds fantastic dude...

Not sure if the heat would get too much in the summer though... phew..

Also I would be pants at waiting on tables.. etc.. :(

August can get very hot indeed but the sea and AC help a lot :). As for the waiting part? Well, as long as you can write down a drinks order and talk to people then it is easy peasy. I think the singing as part of the entertainment could be a bit more daunting. :D

Col your life out there would ding dang do me! :D

It isn't a bad life my friend. You and your lady ought to come out and visit one year. ;)

Today was lovely and hot again so I went for another ride on the bike. I headed down towards Marmari along the coast then back along the main road towards a village called Zipari before then going the 10k into kos Town.

I had a quick coffee and a stare at the women before I headed back along the coast road but then, disaster! I had a flamin puncture and had no kit with me. :(

So, the final 7k or so was done walking and pushing the bike along. Ah well, at least the sun was shining. :D

Col. What would you estimate it would cost to live out there for january to april ?

Also what is there to do during this period ( i assume that is off peak).

You are right about off peak Col as our season goes from May until the middle of October. The cost of living during this time is very cheap as you will not be paying tourist rates. There are also a plethora of places available to rent and so that is cheap too.

I have already said that I can live on around 700 pcm during the off season. That is a rent of 250 and 450 for food and a few beers and paying bills such as internet and telephone etc.. If A couple came out here, they would obviously have to budget more and for the occasional meal out etc.

There is still plenty to do out here. The shops, cinema, cafes, bars and restaurants of Kos Town are open all winter and there are still trips available to Rhodes and the other islands via the ferries. Athens is only a 45 minute flight away too.

If you need any more info, PM me your questions and I will attempt to answer. :D
