123tom123tom
Im starting to get really frustrated with the car now... my car is constantly trying to cut out on me when i come to a stand still like slowing down for traffic lights etc, the car gets confused at idle and tries to cut, my a/f ratio at idle are some times fine but other times runs rich, there are no obvious vacuum leaks that i can see, cleaned the idle control valve, and the o2 sensor about a month or two ago. tried adjusting the tps by loosening them 2 screws and twisting it slightly it works but the idle picks up from 500rpm where it is trying to cut to about 750 rpm but runs rich... any info please... Ric
Not a thor/TRL FCD is it? They went through a phase of sending out faulty FCD's which produced this effect, idle hunting, cutting out etc Myself and a few others had the same issue Even if its not a thor unit, try removing the FCD and resoldering the connections the original locations

Thorin
Either dodgy idle control valve, faulty FCD, or a leak somewhere would be my guess.

123tom123tom
what about the throttle positioning sensor, or maybe a knakered o2 sesor could this be reason aswell
Nic
what about the throttle positioning sensor, or maybe a knakered o2 sesor could this be reason aswell A dead O2 sensor will default the ECU to a very rich mixture, which will cause it to run a bit of lumpy at low rpm's, I don't think this would cause the car to cut out though. 123tom123tom
just found on reason that might cause a problem, the throttle positioning sensor only has on screww in it could this cause a problem, also when i put a new on in is there some kind of way of knowing where it should be set, i have noticed it runs different when you move it slightly. 123tom123tom
ok update i have put a new screw in the throttle position sensor but i dnt know the ideal place to set it, so wha i did i let the car get warm then adjusted it until i got the best idle, round 700rpm, the problem now is that with that perfect idle my air fuel ratio show as 13.7 now i can get it to 14.7 at idle if i move the TPS slighty, but i do loose a bit of rpm........ now the really weired thing what i cant understand, i have got a perfect a/f ration and a good idle but this was with the lights on, if i turn the lights off the a/f ratio drops to about 13.0 and the revs increase???? wtf is going on
michel lane
Check your alternator , if it does not give out the right voltage then your ecu goes scatty and the rest of your electrics aswell , its happened to 2 of our cars already . Put a multimeter on the battery and test the voltage , it should be 14 volt around this mark , then turn the lights on , if it drops to around 11 -12 volts , thats your problem . hope this helps
