Tricky-Ricky
This is an odd one, had my clutch changed last Thursday, on driving it back i noticed a bit odd a rubbing noise, didn't think too much of it at the time, as it could easily be a disc shroud been knocked when it was on the ramp, or even one of my pads getting low, anyway i haven't used the car until today, and after a short drive i could hear this rubbing getting worse, checked the already mentioned things, which where OK, it only does it when moving, and then usually worse on engine breaking, i even tried decluching on over run and at one point got even more noise:( now after a bit more of a drive it seemed to get slightly better! Its got to be drive train related, so i jacked it up and popped off a clutch inspection cover and ran the engine, nothing looks amiss and no noise, even when using the clutch, so i jacked up the back end and put it on axle stands, and run the engine with car in gear, still no noise??> its only when under decelerating load and still there but a lot quieter just cruising> This has got me totally baffled, I'm thinking maybe drive shaft, as this is the only other thing removed. Any input welcome, and yes it going back to who changed the clutch, but they are people i generally trust.
Tricky-Ricky
Overwhelmed by the flood of helpful input:rolleyes: just thought nobody in particular would like to know that i bunged it on the garages ramp that did the clutch and after a little investigation it turns out that some dozy plonker put the centre prop shaft bearing heat shield on the wrong way around, but then it does look like it fits either way, just that one way its a little to close to the prop shaft, and as the prop moves with acceleration/deceleration, hence the scraping. Fish
Glad you got it all sorted Dick - Serves you right for not fitting the clutch yourself :d
merckx
Glad you've got it sorted. The bloke should've fitted it properly in the first place. When I forget the way something might fit it helps to look for marks left by bolt heads, corrosion etc.
