SUPRASUZUKI
.....and all with the blessing of the local police. Mad Sunday is brilliant. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XE86N5sEsW0
Pete
You'd have to be mad I reckon. Do they prep the roads beforehand? Surely you could still come across loose debris, crashed vehicles, animals in the road etc? I couldn't even watch that all the way through without feeling physically scared. tooquicktostop
When I was into bikes I used to love Mad Sunday videos, but since I had a bad crash in 2004 (I have never riden since) that stuff just looks plain stupid for a public road, imagine someone turning right over a crest
SUPRASUZUKI
Just to be clear, the road is one way and policed to ensure nobody tries to go the wrong way. The road is maintained to allow racing, so no nasty potholes or the like. All junctions are closed (on this, the mountain section), so you cannot join or leave the road via any side roads. Join at one end, leave at the other. There are, as Pete pointed out, risks of hitting debris etc, but no more so than on a normal track day or the Ring (in fact, there are less blind bends / crests than the Ring IIRC). It's one of the only places where you can 'push on' on a normal road. Maybe it's dangerous, but it beats trying to top out on the M1..... Gerry
Like Pete.... my heart was beating faster & faster watching this, kept thinking "what if".... (had a big smile as well though) I thought it was just a free-for-all, so pleased you can't come accross someone doing the same think from the opposite direction. Must get a the TT one year. AndyT
Also, 175 is out of date. The lap record stands at average over 130. Try it. Then do it on two wheels.

Don't forget, this is a road bike, not a race bike. I think the highest recorded speed is 202mph past The Highlander pub. So fast it actually disturbs the hanging pub sign on a still day..... I haven't been since '89 when I had my GSXR1100.

G It's only the mountain section (13 or so miles?) that is one way. The rest of the lap (another 24 miles) is 'normal' two way traffic, junctions etc. No limits outside of the towns, but strictly enforced 30's etc elsewhere. So you can feasibly get two guys going for it on one of the long straights, in opposite directions. So 350mph+ closing speeds. Although there's no limit, the police can prosecute for dangerous driving. We saw a 'head on' between an RG500 and BMWK100 whilst we were over there, which resulted in deaths. At the end of one day one guy got garotted. Mr Jeffries family may have had something to say about it. Who knows. ??? I just know that nothing else counts. It's an event no-one else cares for. Except us.

I went in '85, '86 and '89. Only came off once, I tangled with a mate just before Kate's Cottage. Luckily it was cosmetic damage only. Simulator? No way, I'm claustrophobic! rob wild
I think you need a pretty 'big pair' to do something like that! I think the only thing that would bother me would be coming round one of those bends with a car doing 40-50mph and not being able to get around it But saying that I've never been on a bike so not sure how they handle
SUPRASUZUKI
Is that you then? No mate, not me, although it easily could be me (or anyone else with a 1000cc sports bike). Last time I went my old 1100 only pulled about 155 (indicated) on that stretch of road. You tube hadn't been invented and the only riders with onboard videos were top riders. They've started to rent video equipments at track days now, so I may post some vid's later this year.
