TRD3000GT
OK, bought new boot rubbers and I have added the following to make them even better. If you use double sided black ducktape between the cushon on the rear hatch and , well,,, the rear hatch it makes the whole boot unit feel MUCH more secure and less noisy! Even gives the boot a nice pop to open it when you pull the lever. ;-)
Jake
Good idea. I bet that's also a good way of fixing the common facelift Supra problem of the tailgate not releasing properly when the lever is pulled.
TRD3000GT
U got it! I added about 2-3 mm of spongy double sided tape and it makes one hell of a difference!
Faye
Spongy double sided tape here I come, the facelift boot thing has always bugged me!
TRD3000GT
Spongy double sided tape here I come, the facelift boot thing has always bugged me! Just in case anyone is confused? I did it beofre I fitted the new top rubbers. The double sided tape is between the actual boot lid shell and the rubber cushon. I guess you could remove them and refit the same ones after applying tape to them. Also another tip is.. do them up tight but not CRAZY tight. You still want to have the small ammount of tape you used to have an effect!
Faye
So what are the chances of me getting the original boot rubbers off intact?
Jake
I got the original ones off my '93 RZ without any drama..... I have heard of folks having problems but your car isn't all that old. Only one way to find out
TRD3000GT
should not be a problem. Top ones are the hard ones, not very rubbery. Just unscrew them and then refit. HOLDS BREATH
Guest Terry S
My tailgate opens fine. Next time there is a bashed up J spec ( prefacelift) get the boot lock mech from it. Works perfectly.

weinelm
If anyone does have difficultly getting the boot rubber screws out (mine were a PITA!), then just heat them with a mini blow torch. It will melt the locktight and they'll come out a threat. It took me five hours to drill out the left side and five minutes after heating the right! Paul -C-
Just a quick point... I used little foam pads to stop my boot from rattling... until I discovered that they were causing loads of moisture to build up on the windows. I guess they stopped the boot from sealing properly. Although since removing the foam pads I no longer have the rattle
Sharpie
a noob question - do you replace all 4 parts of the boot rubbers ?
