2 JZ conversion questions

Been talking to my old man (terminator on here) about possibly converting my brother's s14a 200sx to the glorious status of 2jz power.

We know we could get an RB26 in it (having already converted my s13 to rb25.

I really like the idea of keeping the twin set up, aiming for around 400-430 bhp, I'm guessing thats about 1.2 bar on stock turbos?

I have a few issues that I'm unsure of, Can I use the R154 box with a 2JZ? are these more readly available? Do them come cheeper than the 160 box? What sort of power/torque can they take before they turn inside out?

Has anyone got any photos of where the manifold and downpipes come down in relation to the steering?

I think this will be one of the harder parts of the conversion if everything fouls as the nissan engines have intake/exhaust on the other sides......

thanks for the help

Yes, you can use the R154 box on the 2jz motor but you need a 1JZ bellhousing, flywheel and clutch.

R154 is good for 600rwhp then needs a thrust washer oiling solution (weak link). Apart from that its a very solid box.Especially if you look to sort the thrust washer first.

They cost about £150 as opposed to the Getrag V160 which is about £1500+ if you can find one...

The Getrag V160 can handle massive hp allegedly

Why are you considering the 2jz option for this? There are much more capable lighter engines... Just wondering why the motivation to go 2JZ?

I'd guess it's Phil's old motor.

Good luck with the project, it'll be good to see pics when the install begins

Have a look for Phil Morrison's project, he has done something similar.

I've seen phils s15, its awesome.

I know the 2JZ isnt light, but none of the RB engines are either....

What engines would you consider? As we are open to ideas...

Yes we do have a spare complete engine/twins/ancilleries so that adds to the tempation....

Chrysler 3.5 V6, all alloy, parts available to make 450 N/A BHP. I have one sat in the workshop right now, but not for sale, I am thinking of putting it in the racer. Jag V6 can make strong N/A power. Volvo / Peugeot / Renault have the old V6 in turbo format, that's a very light unit. 944 turbo unit is 3 litre, compact and readily available. Loads of things around.
