speeding advice

Recommended Posts

my mate just got a letter through the post, got caught doing 102 in a 60, any advice guys? He runs his own company so needs his car for work as otherwise it could have negative impact on his employees and his company if he loses his licence.

It was a single carriage way that turned into a dual carriage way, but without a barrier in the middle (hence still a 60?)

Cheers

D.

(and it is my mate by the way before anyone asks:rolleyes:, I can't get over 5mph as I have no car...)

hmmm some one was saying that he can say a relative from say france holland germany poland something around there was driving at the time give an address may work how olds car

You may find that perverting the cause of justice will have a slightly higher penalty than the speeding offence if you are caught with that!!

A couple recently got really f*cked by a court for doing something similar. They got done for 42 in a 30 or something and tried to avoid the £60 and 3 points by making up some elaborate story about an Albanian lodger etc

One of them went to jail.....:D

Hi,

I am the one that has been caught.

Now I am in no way condoning or deying that it was in fact me and I have already sent the form back saying it was me.

I was in a 60 limit road that for about 14 miles goes from dual carriage way to single carriage way every mile or so.

I remember what happened very clearly. Basically I was on one of the dual carriage way sections and I put my foot down so that I could over take a line of lorries before it went back down to one lane and I obviously didn't see the Van parked in the Layby.

I have a clean licence and I clearly was in the wrong but I had cleared the lorries in plenty of time and I would of slowed straight back down again.

Looks like I will be getting my suit out.

Cheers

Steve

You could explain your actions and tell the court about clean license and why you did what you did and the business and the impact it could have on you being ban or points etc and be very apologetic. Also you can say that your happy to pay above the normal for your actions but would like to avoid points fine and possibly ask to attend one of those courses they run ... You will likely find the judge to be more understanding if he sees that you are genuinely sorry and it is a one off,

all the best lets hope you get away with a fine only

Fair play to you for coming on here.

The fact that there was traffic around will go against you I think.

Assuming 102 isn't the fastest you've been on the road (don't answer unless it's a 'no'), you're about to recieve a harsh lesson.

My only advice would be to learn that lesson.:)

It is very easy to make a glib comment like that but are there any members here that can honestly say that they have never gone over 100 MPH?

There but for the grace of God go I (well, not now as there is no chance of reaching 100 MPH where I currently reside).

I agree, everyones likes to preach until they are wearing the same shoes :)

I would advise visiting Here and seeing what the forums advise for you.

good luck, if you can re enforce that you were 'safe' at that speed and need your car for work you 'might' escape a ban :)

Great advice. As if the chap isn't in enough strife already, you're condoning/suggesting that he attempt to pervert the course of justice by suggesting someone else was driving the car? In the public section of the forum as well? You idiot. This club doesn't need people like you. I'll hold back on what i really think.

As for the chap caught speeding, do you really want to be discussing this here, in public, on an open forum?

My advice to you is to get yourself a good solicitor, plead guilty and submit some mitigation as for why the magistrates shouldn't take your licence away.

You'll be looking at a ban imo and a BIG fine.

If I got caught at over 100, I couldn't argue against calls for a ban (and to be fair the guys not arguing):).

I got banned for speeding as a 17 year old. My old man showed me no sympathy, just told me to take the medicine, learn the lesson and get over it.

I'm just repeating this good (in my opinion) advice.:)

B******ks, I've turned into my dad:(

I imagine you'd end up in the Med if you tried to get to 100?

can we move this to members only section then to be less "public", just trying to help out a good mate, it's a not too old diesel vectra, so not a sports car thrashing/showing off.

Knowing the stretch of road and him I'm not surprised this happened as it's a bugger to be stuck behind a long stretch of lorries and can't get past, and when on a long drive from Devon to Reading the frustration can get the better of you...

And some are too quick to judge on here, it wasn't 120, ok it was too high given the place/traffic, but it could have easily happened to a lot of people on here, admittidly even myself...

Just trying to limit the damage, so thanks for any advice. If people don't want to discuss options/advice openly please could I ask you to PM him, or myself if you don't want to give it to him personally (him not being a supra owner and regular user of this forum).

Thanks guys.

102 to overtake lorries, come on, do you really think they`ll buy that.

The lorries were doing 90 though....:D Shame you didn't get pulled by a traffic car as they would have probably let you off, according to some of the threads on here!

The Police must still think it's Christmas...

Guest 248SPG

Well I am bored at work and remembered about this thread while browsing through some of the other things i.e. To see if Razza is still getting married :p

Well I had my Day in court back in April.

Without going into too much detail I was handed a short ban, a BIG fine and another fine for having the incorrect address on my driving licence.

The Maigstrates were very fair on me as the Ban was long enough to prove to me how importnant my licence is to me without effecting my livelihood and the fine was big enough to make sure I do not forget about what I did in a hurry.

It has had the desired effect as I am much more concious of my speed now a days which seems to have greatly increased my MPG out of my humble Vectra TDi :)

Thanks a lot for any help and advice you guys gave.
