Angarak
For those of you who would like to raise your blood pressure: So, for 50 litres at the pump, we are paying £19.51 for the fuel plus an eye-watering £32.99 in taxation. And now the Chancellor is looking for a further 2p per litre in April! http://tpa.typepad.com/westmidlands/2008/02/british-drivers.html
Rob
Thats why it annoys me when Shell announce their profits and everyone (ie the media) is up in arms about it. Ooh they're so greedy, they only go out and find the stuff and then ship it halfway across the workd to huge refinerys that they've built, then ship it to filling stations that they've built, then sell it to us to allow us to use our cars. They're so much worse than the Govt. who take +60% in tax in return for sweet FA.
n boost
Someone needs to open up g browns ar$ehole and see if they can find some oil in there, using one of them big industrial drills and the roughest drill bit they can find. Probably a waste of time as he probably has his head stuck up there anyway. My blood pressure is sky high at the mo but thats what we get being a tax payer in this country. Makes u sick really, this tax is just all bull$hit and so is this GOV'T, Shell are still investing for future of oil and so on while brown is investing in his back pocket the F4T Fcuk. Pabs
yeh, agreed. It's not good. But all we can do is p*ss and moan about it all day long - nothing will ever get done about it unless we all revolt or something....

damouk
It does not matter if he puts on 2 or 10p everyone will just accept it and maybe moan a little. No one actually does anything about it all the 'dont buy petrol on monday' e-mails you get prove nothing a few people actually do these things but then they go out the dunday evening and full there cars to the brim with fuel......!? is that ever going to happen nope i dont think so, and they know it, the same reason 20 fags is now £5 or so... That was my thinking, "oh my god how dare they charge us something like 20P a litre for the actual fuel" I say fair play to shell... their profits pale in comparison to the governments, maybe the gov' should pay wind fall tax on fuel duty, giving us a nice pay out

They've worked hard, run a successful operation and have made a good profit. Regarding the amount of profit - its simply due to the turnover of the company. They turned over nearly 300 billion - so the profit is only something like 6-10% of the turnover, which is only just "adequate". Shell make around 3p a litre from fuel sales which is a minute amount compared the sales in other areas of the business. Regards, Gaz. Thorin
Yep I agree. At the end of the day, fair play to Shell. They've worked hard, run a successful operation and have made a good profit. Shell employees might disagree with you Shell are planning massive job cuts despite record profits and strikes are likely.
Rob
I remember getting stopped by some guy selling a magazine in London, waaay back in the 1990 when the 1st gulf war was starting, and he was trying to get me to buy his protest mag by saying "don't you see man, it's not about saving the Kuwait people, it's all about the oil, it's just greedy multi-nationals lining their pockets" I thought "Look around you, you're in one of the worlds major cities, how did all this stuff get here? Oil made it all possible, of course the war is about oil." I didn't buy his magazine.
Bobbeh
Welps, just watch the prices when India and China are needing more energy, the prices are gonna sky rocket and this 2p increase will not look like much then.

I agree. Petrol in this country I don't think will ever go below £1 per litre now, unless we have a recession (which is likely!). Regards, Gaz.
