Back wheels wobbling

I was driving up from tescos tonight and someone stopped me to say my back wheels were wobbling quite bad.So i thought since i got 2 new tyres fitted and its the first time ive used it since that they had not been tightened right up.

When i checked the 5 nuts on each wheel are solid.

Thinking back to when the tyres were fitted the guy didnt balance the wheels would this make that much of a difference,i really dont want to drive it untill i get this sorted, any ideas:search:

Do you have concentric rings?

Just because the bolts are tight does not mean the wheels were correctly fitted. If this is due to the tyre place you should be on to trading standards, you could have killed your self or someone else. Remember it is the drivers responsibility to check the car is road worthy.

Jack it up and see if you can wobble your wheel, when i fitted my alloys I tighted up the rear wheel nuts only to find that they were to small and was not fully pushing on the alloy I had to get a set of longer wheel nuts (about 30mm long) to go on and this worked fine.

the garage may have lost your wheel nuts and just fitted them back on with some others that are not quiet long enough or not tappered if needed to be etc.

That's not good, you mean wobble as if buckled?

perhaps they tightened it down with something between the wheel and hub, I'd have it off and have a look!

Could be the little ring has moved and caught under a portion of the alloy, either which way, get i back there, balanced and check. A proper balancing should also determine if the alloy is bent.

Mike what could have been between the wheel and the hub surely plastic wouldnt buckle the wheeel would it

a spanner?? lol

could be something stupid like a crushed stone, or the spigot ring could be jammed, but you say both are wonky?

I'd have the wheels off first thing in the morning and double check before you drive anywhere

I will have to jack it up tommorow and check i also noticed that the volk wheels have more holes than the five required is there maybe a certain way they go on

it should be impossible to bolt them on through the wrong holes, but never say never!

be interested to hear what it was though :)

Took the wheels off and there is nothing behind them it is strange but i think both wheels are buckled as they do not bolt hard on to the car there is a small gap at one side.

I have managed to slacken nuts on one side of the wheel and tighten on the other to get them near as straight looks like a new set of rims for me

what are concentric rings and if the garage has lost them can i get more, cheers

The hub that you see when you take the wheel off should be a snug fit with the wheel inner, as it is with the original alloys, most aftermarket loys have a bigger hole, so a sleeve (concentric/spigot rings) is pushed in to the wheel so it will be a perfect fit to the hub.

Yes you can buy them, alloy dealers, ebay etc.

Without them you will have a bumpy ride & self loosing nuts.

I took the wheels off and there are not spigot rings(not sure if there should be)but when i started tightening the wheels it was as if they were buckled as one side would not pull onto the hub but the other would.Im pretty sure they are not buckled as both wheels were fine before i got the tyres changed.

I managed to slacken some nuts and tighten others until i had the wheels running true and straight but im still not sure if they were like that when i bought the car or something has happened when the tyres were changed or wheels put back on.

Ive been trying to source concentric/spigot rings for my wheels but when i search for my volks it seems they dont make them anymore.(see my garage as i dont know how to put the pics here)

Anyone know what volk wheels ive got, cheers
