been doing a bit of research and i found alot of you have had 1 or 2 of these, considering one as my next car really:( might have to put supe ownership on hold, its not leaving me enough funds at the end of the month (and i have a crap payed job tbh)

the job hunt ain't going well either:search::(

got a few general questions,

*how are they to run, i hear they are as bad as a mini (reliability)

*any 21y/o who have had one whats the insurance like? had 2 quotes both said they would get back, never had them do that before

*i know we dont like these 3 letters on this forum but what a rough....shh ..MPG?

and i know these are still pretty quick but i hope to make a bit of a saving per month what you reckon i can get insurance for less than £2.7K:D

probably have more QQ's later lol, if anyone could help with the info that would be great;)

great car but the other 4wd 2.0 litre turbos I'd consider for similar money are the;

Evo1

Evo2

Evo3

and the celica GT4, the celica will be a huge amount cheaper to insure over the evo and pulsar, all fantastic cars and my evo1 returns 30mpg driving under 3k revs :)

Pulsar gtir are great little cars. Not the best in the looks dep but each to their own.

My mates have owned several and they have the sr20det engine which is solid if looked after. The only weak point when you modify is the gearbox and they will go through clutches if u constantly launch them.

For your money u do get a good little package and generally reliable with timing chain so no belts to change.

Common problem if not looked after are spun bearings, so u do not want an abused one .

Rev3 MR2 turbo - Well cheap and will return 30mpg. Insurance will be around 800-1000

ST205 - Again great value for money, will return around 25-30mpg. Insurance may be a little more.

GTi-R Chavmobile that will have had the arse torn right out of it imo.

Same goes with Evo's.

They aren't hard cars to drive fast whereas rear wheel drive cars are. When you see a RWD car that looks mint it most likely hasn't been driven like it was stolen as it would have been in a hedge a few times.

Also, not many people think of the ST205 so its kind of glossed over by the chavvs.

Buy an ST205 Celica GT-Four instead - More powerful, faster, better handling, far better built and superbly strong and over engineered in the same vain as the Supra. Cheaper insurance too.

Cheers,

Brian.

I'd take this advise mate, the guy's I know who have had the GT4's have been happy with them, and would buy another. The guy's I know who have had the GTiR's have told me they would never buy another, and that they were off road much more than they were on it.

i had apulsar for 4yrs great little car lots of fun.

mpg was about 16/18 at best

1 gearbox went wrong

1 clutch went

clutch master cylinder went

the brakes as standard are really bad and quite dangerous upgrade to big brake conversion was about 400

you need to put a front mount if you take it over 0.9 bar boost

another common fault is the relay switch for the fan goes sometimes.

need uprated fuel pump with power mods

my hand brake seized on as the cables and springs can rust

get it undersealed on a new import if buying a used one in this country make sure it has been done other wise it rust to bits as mine did i then had to brake it for spares.

if you put a front mount in you need to put the washer bottle and battery in the boot

rear quater panels are prone rust.

my brake lines burst on mine as well

apart from all this i loved mine till the end and beat a lot of cars in it was running 295 bhp as well.

lots of understeer without suspension mods

From a standing start a GTi-r will be in front for the first 5 seconds. After that the power of the ST205 will pull it past.

was this really worth the thread bump?

Nope

Mr2 turbos suffer from a much higher claims/loss ratio than GT4's so the GT4 will cost less (probably significantly) less to insure.

Fine in standard form, god awful when modified. Gear boxes go, clutches go. Expensive to maintain

*any 21y/o who have had one whats the insurance like? had 2 quotes both said they would get back, never had them do that before

depends on a lot of variables.. location, NCB, accidents/losses/points. The only way to find out is to have a look around.

*i know we dont like these 3 letters on this forum but what a rough....shh ..MPG?

Awful MPG when modified and driven on boost, really, really shockingly bad.

I refer you to my previous answer.

I've raced them at Crail and no I'm not having a joke. The ST205 is the superior car in every way ;)

A well launched ST205 GT-Four will see a 1.6 sec 60ft time with road tyres.... a well launched Pulsar GTi-R will see it slowly roll to a halt with a broken gearbox :p As for that interwarmer they fitted to them...... tee hee :eyebrows:
