Scott
I did a search for piston limits and the first site i found was this one... http://www.merkurencyclopedia.com/Motor/enginespecs.html All limits are in Imperial and the tightest limit i can see is 0.0006" I'd really like to see the workshop manual now as metric seems a bit much of a muchness. and1c
What are you planning to use for a torque plate TLicense? Im currently doing a rebuild (2jz gte) and am thinking of having one made? Unless anyone has one to hire here on the forum?
SUPRASUZUKI
How do you find the Metris system Tony? We considered one but ended up with one of these - http://www.europacmetrology.co.uk/page.asp?PageID=1 as they did us a good deal. It's proving invaluable for measuring bodywork, jigs & fixtures. TLicense
Here's a link to a scan of the Toyota workshop manual detailing the tolerances. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/tlicense/Engine%20build/Enginetolerances002.jpg So anyway, as I said previously the plan is to finish stripping the block and then get it sent to the machine shop to be cleaned up. Here's how the block how I received it....
TLicense
So the first thing I did was to remove both the knock sensors:- Here's what they look like off the block:- I then removed the water pipe feed:- and the water drain plug:- Here's what it looks like with the plug removed, you can see the drain at the bottom:- I then turned the block over and removed the oil squirters:- Also I removed all the O'ring's:- And with that done the strip down's complete. SimonB
Tony, can I ask where you are getting your machine work done?
TLicense
I'll be getting any machining done at Oselli motorsport in Witney. Unfortunately though, I discovered an issue with the block. Basically as I mentioned previously the cylinder bore tolerance is between 86.000 and 86.020. I measured up the cylinders both in the thrust direction (side to side) and in the thrust direction (front to back). I measured them in 3 positions each. 10mm from the top of the bore, in the middle of the bore and 10mm from the bottom of the bore. I took all the measurements 3 times to check that I wasn't making any erroneous measurements but found that all the bores were worn oversize. In order to fix this, it would require re-boring the block to 86.5mm and purchasing oversized pistons, which is completely possible but quite a pain. The person I bought it form offered me a replacement, but unfortunately the timing doesn't quite work out. He's offered a refund which I've agreed to. (Many thanks to him, especially for the extra effort he's put in to sort everything out) So I'm going to pull my engine this weekend and strip and rebuild that as long as it's in tolerance. If it's not then I'm going to purchase a new stock short block from Toyota. So at the moment it's put this part of the project on hold for a week but in the meantime I'll be doing a write up on how to pull the block. ajazyasin
why not just get the block machined and use oversized pistons? surley it would be cheaper that a new sort block?
TLicense
What will happen to this block and all its parts? The block will be going back to the seller. PM me if you want details. why not just get the block machined and use oversized pistons? surley it would be cheaper that a new sort block? It actually works out very close to being the same price. Only a couple of hundred in it.

Jspec Germany
May be interested depending on what it would cost me to get it from you. I am unable to pick it up. I wonder if I could persuade someone to bring it with them to dragonball or one of the ring trips.

I wonder if I could persuade someone to bring it with them to dragonball or one of the ring trips. Apart from being pretty big, I'm assuming it's insanely heavy?! I might fit in an Aristo....
