turbonut
Did you know Tesco value beans are actually Heinz beans? The tins are weighted at the packing plant at Heinz and if they are not the correct weight they get labeled as Tesco value. Less beans means less wind....bigup Tesco!! > L
Ewen
Yup, as I suspected, marmite and beans on thick crusty toast is to die for.

MrRalphMan
Yup, sounds about right. Makes me chuckle the amount of people that won't pick up the value stuff because it is 'cheap or chav'.... I call it sensible shopping, I don't care if my cupboard has value items in it I don't mind, our cupboards look like someone parked a whole load of Fiesta ST's in em. Scoboblio
I was told at college that it costs companies like Heinz so much to switch their machines off that they simply keep them running and sell the produce cheap to the supermarkets for their own brand stuff. It's nice to think that the tesco value stuff is made in the same factory, but if it's got different ingredients in it, it's not the same product! That said, I do prefer tesco's own cereals to any of the kellog's ones.
Jake
The same for most own brand stuff. Quality control is less strict, thats all.My mum used to work in the Smiths crisps factory near portsmouth. They definitely used to make the "own brand" crisps for lots of supermarkets. Interestingly they also made the crisps for Mark and Spencer but for those the quality control was actually higher than for Smiths own crisps. Apparently M&S won't accept any slightly 'black around the edge' ones whereas Smiths will let a certain percentage through. Also the flavourings used varied between different Smiths and the "own brand" ones. My GF at the time was at Uni but had to get a job during the summer to pay the rent. We lived in this poxy little bedsit in a really rough area of Portsmouth (Buckland, if anyone knows Pompey) and she worked long shifts on the line at Smiths. Anyway, money was tight but she could buy a binbag full of packets of crisps from Smiths for 50p! We lived mainly off crisps that summer. Isn't that romantic? spidermonkey
Do beans really make you fart?
Animal
Any food makes me fart. I think possibly just breathing makes me fart.
keancy
Many shops do this like Aldi and Lidl who are German shops. The sell Branded goods under different labels, hence why cheaper. As for the Tesco beans, they may claim they are Heinz but they taste like sh*t so I will carry on buying the real thing.
Ark
As a student I once did a production operations management study of a bakery. They shipped the identical product in their own brand premium packaging, and also in el-cheapo packaging as supplied by a superstore (could have been Tesco, can't remember). No ingredient changes, no mix or quality difference. Agreed with Keancy about tesco beans - they taste awful, so there is a difference there. jamesmark
It's a bit like Sunblest bread (I think Sunblest is in Scotland only) you buy that for about 60p-70p a loaf and it is the exact same bread you get in Tesco Value bread for 30p. Ewen
We lived in this poxy little bedsit in a really rough area of Portsmouth (Buckland, if anyone knows Pompey) I did some work for Portsmouth council years and years ago, Buckland and Fratton were on my job sheet a few times. I was offered sex for a few extra bathroom tiles once (job sheet said replace eight, she wanted 15), and attacked by the husband of a woman for not fixing her toilet. I kept telling her it wasnt on my job sheet, I was only there to re-hang her doors, but she wasnt happy...when her husband turned up she told him Id interfered with her. As he held my head down the toilet pan I could see she was right, it did indeed need a fair bit of work.
