Caribbean - where

Hello all

the mrs has been lucky enough to get a nice fat bonus from her poshe office job so she's taking me to the Caribbean :D ner ner.

Anyway, who has been where and could give us a few ideas on where to go with a 5 year old !! Really haven't got a clue where to start, but I can say we don't want some exclusive island that Brad Pitt would go to and has bugger all on it or in the way of population. We would like a bit of life and a chunk of paradise to enjoy this once as we'll probably not be able to afford this kind of holiday again for a LOOOOONG time.

We've been looking at Dom Rep and Barbados but havent got our hearts set on anything in particular.

Also where would be a good place to go to book this kind of break i.e travel agents, websites etc ?

cheers

Mark n Annie

i went to the sandals resort in St Lucia. To tell you the truth i didn't like it too much as i get bored very quickly. A freind of mine has been to Barbados and he loved it.

I've been to the Maldives and i loved every second of it for the snorkling/diving, but thats not in the Caribbean :-(

TRINIDAD!!! is great for shopping etc, but TOBAGO, is for sight seeing, and a lot safer than trinidad, lots of nice places to see and things to do, trinidad is really not a place to go if you going with your wife and child mate, tobago is the shot! going to trinidad every year i wouldnt recommend it personally. Unless you wanted to see supras, trini is swarmed with supes:D

ive been to cuba and cancun(on the caribbean shore) both were amazing holidays however cuba tends to limit you to the hotel complex apart from the usual excursions available via the rep. on the other hand cancun is the opposite really all hotels on a big long strip most of which are in town which has plenty to do night or day. both have beachs to die for and i would recommend them both highly.

I went to the Bahamas recently, stayed on Grand Exuma. I have to say that although a beautiful place, it was pretty much a sun and snorkelling sort of place. Not much for a five year old to do I'm afraid. Here endeth my knowledge of the Caribbean.

I spend about a month in the caribbean every year and travel all over it.. I would say that for a family holiday that offers what your looking for Id go to antigua. there are also DIRECT flights from heathrow on BA and Virgin.

Ive spent months at the longbay hotel as a kid and went there recently. There are NO TV's etc but beleive me you wont be staying in watching tv..

Sandalls are all over the Caribbean, but are for couples only, no kids. So check out their sister chain "Beaches" which is all-inclusive, and geared up for families, but still of the same quality. Lots of watersports including scuba diving all inclusive, as much rum as you can swim in....perfect.
