Guest madhouse1c Posted January 27, 2008 Share Posted January 27, 2008 Hello guys im pretty new to the site and forums but what i didnt already know about supras from my previous experience tuning and owning jap motors (skylines, rx7's, silvias etc) im learning quickly now. Ok onto the reason i started this thread, i went to look at a 94 uk spec tt 6spd manual today and visually she was a beauty kinda helps blue being my fav colour anyway shes got the makings to be a fantastic project car and the big part of my planned project (not sure if this has been done yet) is to swap out the standard 94 engine and drop in a 98 vvti engine from a jdm motor and uprate/upgrade everything eventually to go along with it. What i want to ask you guys, girls and enthusiasts is what do you think to the idea of a uk spec tt with vvti? would it kill the prestige of it being a uk model? turn away the heads of the supra community etc. So any good opinions aswell as bad please be honest but nice lol, opinions would be appreciated and if this has been done before id def like to know and how it turned out to puplic reaction etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

JustGav Posted January 27, 2008 Share Posted January 27, 2008 You wouldn't get any benefit as such. The VVTi engine uses a different ECU and that then plugs into a different dash loom, so you would end up splicing all over the place. Better off just getting a VVTi and putting uk seats, lights in.... but still sort of pointless to be honest. The non-vvti has a bigger following as far as mods and support goes. Guest madhouse1c Posted January 27, 2008 Share Posted January 27, 2008 Cool cheers for the opinions guys, i only know so much as the mechanical aspects being a mechanic and from what ive been reading recently, you can learn everything about a skyline but the only thing thats then common with say a supra is the basic mechanics whole nother ball game when tuning the 2, guess thats why i asked you lot since you have been driving supras for years. Helps getting that specialist opinion from time to time. Was many gonna do it just to say its been done and have a one off, bit of individualism, i know of a cheap vvti thats a complete right off but the engine is perfect so money wouldnt be an issue if i was to do it, guess it comes down to male ego of bragging rights - caveman instincts lol. Alex Posted January 27, 2008 Share Posted January 27, 2008 If you suspect the bottom end of your engine isn't that good you could always take the VVTi engine and swap the short blocks, then sell the UK bottom end and VVTi head seperately. Always worth asking prior to deciding whether or not to do something. Only reason i thought of doing it was cause of like i said above i know of one i can possibly get my hands on cheap. Exactly what I did, I fitted a VVTi long block, with my old tuned non-VVTi head. I did this mainly as my car is a pre-facelift model so the install and wiring was a lot easier.
