JamesG
Agghhh. Checked my credit card statement online yesterday and found two transactions for T-Mobile that are nothing to do with me. This is the second time it's happened with my HSBC credit card. HSBC don't even cancel the credit card automatically when you phone to tell them - last time I had to phone them back the next day and tell them to cancel it after I found more transactions. This time I told them to cancel it straightaway, and they put me through to a different department to cancel it. Now, this time I have a sneaky plan to track down the culprits. When I had my details stolen a couple of years ago, the bank eventually sent me some photocopies of the transaction details that included someone else specifying my email address. Ever since that happened, I've been booby-trapping my email addresses by adding the company name to the part before the @. If I get the same information this time, I might be able to find out which company is responsible!

JamesG
Thanks all. Fortunately, it doesn't cost me anything - just the bank. The only hassle is the 5 min phone call, filling in a couple of forms and losing use of my credit card for a few days. I love to find out which company is responsible though. They'd be getting some seriously bad publicly from me

Todd
My partner had this twice last year to, with hsbc and someone used her details to get phone credit with T-mobile. Snap! We reported money coming off our account back in October (£80) was told we would get the money back and completed all the paperwork, 3 months later and guess what, another 3 taken out, so £320 down. Phoned t-mobile but they had never heard of us or our bank account, phoned the banks fraud line and they told us we should have canceled our card back in October, news to us as the local bank just told us to fill in the paperwork and that was it. Threw a hissy fit and the money got refunded there and then
Soaruss
My sister in law had transactions done on her credit card without her knowing and the cheeky git who had done the deed even phoned them at 4 o clock one morning and asked them how they felt knowing someone else was using her card details. He even knew all her personal details, national insurance number, bank passwords, everything.

Paul
I had my Debit Card done, only used it a Shell petrol staions lately so I sent them a sh*tty e-mail. Got a reply with standard comments like being covered for loss etc. All true but then I pointed out that I had incurred extra expenses of over £100 as a result due to needing my card to carry out a large purchase they don't seem bothered and said they had passed all my details of the fraud to their dept that and it will be investigated. Now the problem was I hadn't given them any details !! Bloody joke the petrol companies are and the banks, chip and pin is a laugh and we all pay for the fraud one way or the other in the end. marbleapple
It's always T Mobile for some reason. My fiance had the same problem this week. HSBC don't even cancel the credit card automatically when you phone to tell them - last time I had to phone them back the next day and tell them to cancel it after I found more transactions. As for the person who said HSBC did not cancel your card the 1st time round, you want to ring up and complain. Every call to HSBC is recorded and they can find out which muppett didn't cancel it. I happen to know that failing to transfer the call through to the fraud department to cancel the card is a disciplinary offence (I worked their call centre whilst at uni) and is unacceptable. I bet you got through to India though as opposed to the Call centres in Scotland or Leeds.

Paul
Unlucky mate Thats why I always pay cash unless its somewhere I really trust. So many scammers about its just not funny! That's what I'm doing now, paying cash for petrol so the scum that run these petrol stations can't do it again. Can't rely on the Police or Banks to sort it so we've got no choice:(
