Brakes for J-spec

Recommended Posts

My brakes need to be replaced as they are worn - how much are UK brakes? I can't afford a big disc n' 6pot conversion, but failing the UK brakes, would fast road pads, new discs, braided lines and 5.1 help the rather crap stopping power???

Cheers!

Chris Wilson (trader on here) was doing a good deal recently on his fast road pads i believe. Well worth a call IMO. I had his race spec pads on my old j spec car and they transformed the braking. I believe the road spec are not quite as 'bitey' but produce less dust (race spec pads are not good if you have good looking alloys that you want to stay good looking! - can't fault the difference in bite though - awesome)

You're looking at well over a grand for UK spec front and rear brakes even from a group buy. I reckon they'd be getting on for £1500 from Toyota. They are good though.

Good pads, fluid and braided brake lines will improve the JSpec brakes a lot.

They haven't arrived yet, but iirc they are 255/45/18 & 275/40/18 Fox Evo6 (yeah i know Chav specials, but they were the only ones that really fitted that i liked the look of), i believe the assistant took into account any future brake upgrades.

255/45/18 & 275/40/18
That's the tyre sizes. And they're the wrong sizes, they're the wrong aspect ratio for those widths
Fox Evo6

OK you can probably forget about anyone on here being able to tell you if they'll fit, I don't think anyone else is going to have those wheels.

Are you sure they'll be suitable for a Supra?

What size are these wheels anyway? How wide? What offsets?

Where did you buy them?

I went to Motorworld in Maidenhead, the assistant then promptly phoned a supplier who had a better database than himself, and came up with just two wheels that would fit (without spending mega money or going up to 19's), one set were Milli Miglia's, which looked terrible, the other were the Fox's, which looked really nice as it goes. I can't remember the offsets or widths (8.5 & 9inch possibly???).

I couldn't fault the service, they worked hard to find a set for me (I was in the shop for 1.5 hours while he tore his hair out).

God I'm worried now!!!

I just did a search on the net and it seems that 18" Evo 6 wheels are only availble

in 8x18 and 9x18. I think that's alright but 8½x18 would be better on the front really.

As long as the offsets are OK you should be fine. (Assuming you have misremembered those tyre sizes, they're definitey wrong)

If you fit those tyres you will have speedo error readout and I think that affects the ECU with its calculation and may cause other problems

235/40/18 =645mm

255/45/18 =687mm +6.51%

255/35/18 =636mm

275/40/18 =677mm +6.45%

max allowed 2.5%

Have a look at this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=31380

The fronts might be 9x18 then- I have a memory like a seive. Oh well, only one way to find out -gulp!

I spent most of Sunday night on the internet trying to find some wheels that ween't comicaly priced, it was actually quite stressful...

Cheers!
