madmunky
What i did was have the car running then use a long screw driver and put it on the tensioner then your ear on the other end and you can work out where its coming from and i believe its a new tensioner your require. absz
the cam belt tensioner is hydraulic and cannot be tightened further. do you mean the idler gear is noisy.
AndyT
the cam belt tensioner is hydraulic and cannot be tightened further. do you mean the idler gear is noisy. ie auto tensioning and you need a new one if it's broke.

absz
the tensioner is just a long hydraulic piston that pushes onto the idler gear to give it tension. and thats what the belt runs on. remove the drivebelt (alternator belt) first and run the engine up just to make sure the noise is coming from within the timing cover. VIL
Mine started to rattle which ended up being the alternator belt tensioner, so decided it was a good indicator to get everything changed up front. I got the timing belt and tensioner and alternator belt and tensioner changed and all bits supplied main dealer (Steve Manley - 01865 291300 or [email protected]) he will sort you out a good deal. Rob
Should be a shade under £100 from Toyota. Just the tensioner bit though, not the wheel.
