michael
Friday question: If you could change one motoring law which one would it be, what would you change and why would you change it? Discuss.... :alien:
Bill Prawn
I would make everybody, (including myself) re-take a test every 3 years. Driving is a privilege not a right. If this happened the standard of driving would improve, thus lowering the accident rate and poor driver manners that are growing all the time. (Of which we are all guilty). JustGav
I'll second that, some tw%t drove into my mom's new car this morning on her way to work.... and drove off.... nice little hit and run... New bumper, new arch lining, and new wing.... thank you very much!!!!
Ian R
I would only let HGV's use the inside lane on MWAYS and make the speed limit 100mph :upside: :upside:
Alex
That's 2 laws! I'd make speeding punishable by death...and change my name to David Blunkett at the same time
Pete
Law that Insurance companies were non profit making organisations.
Faye
Make motorway driving a test after you have passed the main test. Its a whole different way of driving and people just aren't well prepared for it.
Scoboblio
I would ban insurance companies from charging extra for modifications unless they plan to replace them in the event of an accident
how_supra
I'll second that, some tw%t drove into my mom's new car this morning on her way to work.... and drove off.... nice little hit and run... New bumper, new arch lining, and new wing.... thank you very much!!!! I would pass the same law as well. Re-testing defo, anyone can pass their test once!! - when you pass your test, its great, but driving instructors have targets to achieve...... Otherwise how about a clause relating to speeding convictions, i'm thinking something like............ "if a driver is caught speeding at 3:30 in the morning doing 6 mph over the speed limit on a dual carriageway, when no one else is around does not warrant a £60 fine and 3 points........" Its a whole different way of driving and people just aren't well prepared for it. At the moment you can opt to do pass plus which teaches you motorway driving (amongst other things), but its not compulsory which is a shame. Digsy
If it's one law only, I'd have to go along with the insurance thing. There's simply too many things to change about actually driving. The whole industry should be converted to a completely transparent "you get what you pay for" footing. Currently its almost legalised fraud. (Apologies to all my NU mates on here, but you don't make the rules )

I did this, once you pass its also supposed to lower your premium when you get a quote for insurance. However, when i asked about it a lot of them didnt know what it was! Few years ago now mind..... Didn't for me - but then my first car was a van.
Sharpie
Make motorway driving a test after you have passed the main test. Its a whole different way of driving and people just aren't well prepared for it. Yep, just like in Germany. Teaching people to move over helps with the flow of traffic sooooo much! Whitelightning
Well raise speed limit is an obvious choice. In the motoring world. But I think this country might be better off with "no benefits without proof" down the social services office.

davidd
Middle lane hoggers will be banned instantly. aye & third laners! all part of my chosen law - "making drivers more aware of the traffic & circumstances around them" - weather, speed, traffic volume, positioning, correct use of lights, etc on the whole - be awake / ban daydreaming! Gaz Walker
HGV's use the inside lane only. Germany seems to have the right idea when it comes to traffic laws: Autobahns No HGVs outside the inside lane No remould tyres Seperate tests for motorway drivers etc etc Gaz. SupraStar 3000
I think its completely crazy the same speed limited restrict both old and modern cars? Why does a Robin Reliant have to abide by the same speed limit as Mclaren F1? Stupid law!
Green Peace
I think they should prosecute people for going below the speed limit!
