Which FMIC?

I am considering buying a FMIC (including pipework) for my car, this may sound dumb but can you keep the stock bumper, will it leave you with enough room for the bigger intercooler to bolt in place?

Which one would be a decent choice to go for in terms of value for money and performance gains, I don't want to spend a fortune but I don't want a piece of cheap sh*t that breaks after 2 days and destroys my engine either:)

My TT is a 96 j-spec auto BPU

cheers

I have a 100mm deep core which fits easily (the UK active lip spoiler mechinism if you have one may have to go though).

Some may disagree, but I use an XS Power core (24" x 12" x 4"), maybe not the best end tank design, but when properly ducted give me excellent intake temps.

The other options, HKS, Greddy etc will be much more expensive, contact the usual suspects for their best prices (Nic usually gets good rates from Japan, KylesTT or Dusty (MVP) from the US, or Envy for a UK supplier). You'll probably find something like the Greddy 3 Row a bit OTT for your needs, but that will fit under the stock bumper, so lesser depth ones will also fit.

Also bear in mind for BPU level many consider a new SMIC (the Chris Wilson one for example) to be more than adequate.

The quality is probably unknown, there are a few on here that've bought them off Ebay and appear to be happy though.

If I had the choice I would pay the extra and buy one from a well known manufacture like the one from Greddy above.

As far as I know there aren't any tests that've been done to establish their performance so you cannot easily make comparisons.

Don't bother, the kit is rubish as a few have found out to their cost. Did you notice the mock-up of the IC routing on the add? :D

The Greddy and HKS 2 row kits are far better, fit perefectly and most importantly *work*

thanks guys so where would I get a greddy 2 row from? all my searches for greddy are much more than £350 all in, will it fit my car with its bumper? I want to keep it stock.

Jevansio, how much was your xs power? did it include the fitting kit?

You will need to pay more than £350 for a decent kit, you gets what you pay for ;)

They fit the standard bumper but you will have to permanently drop the active spoiler if you have one fitted (no FMIC works with them).

Do not bother with XS power, utter crap.

I use a CW SMIC.

And thats probably the best IC for any TT or small single out there.

Not cheap, but as mentioned, you get what you pay for :D

I've bought and fitted the CW SMIC after hearing good things on here and it appears to do the job but I've got nothing to compare it with.

I wish there was some comparison tests to finally show which ones are the best.

Out of interest how much would my current standard tt intercooler (good condition) be worth, any ideas?

You would have to post some pics, does it crumble like a Cadbury's Flake. Most do when they're exposed to the winter in this country. (Mine included until I replaced it). :)

Right so I have ordered a Greddy Spec M 2 Row FMIC and fitting kit from Nic £400 including paypal fees, very reasonable I think. :)

Does anyone know of a thread on how to install it? I will have a go at fitting it myself to save on labour

From memory my Greddy FMIC came with instructions. But that was 3 years ago. :)
