Auto motor boost creep!!

hi everyone,

i hope im going to get somewhere posting this, im after help with my auto starlet. I know its not a supra but alot of the supra ppl modify the auto's i believe? Just wondering if anyone can give some advice.....

I have an auto ep82 which has been only ever so slightly modified she has run 11psi on the hks actuator no probs. After having my HKS cat-back exhaust fitted i was hitting fuel cut so i've now had to wind the actuator down ALOT! So at the moment she runs 8psi accelerating because as soon as the box changes gear it spikes to 12psi just below my fuel cut.

Ive been advised to either port the wastegate or restrict the exhaust etc but i dont want to do either of these things. Especially anything which means "de-modding" the car as such!

Just wondered if anyone knows why it does this? im very shocked to encounter such a big spike after only fitting a cat back exhaust on. Ive put the standard air box back on for the time being too which seems to help keep me just below the fuel cut.

I dont mind spending money on modifications to help the problem, i was thinking maybe buy emanage and manifold and map the car for the spike? just wondering if this is my only option?

Does anyone know why its doing this just after the gear change? ive never had any probs before!

Any help appreciated

ive seen you on UKSC and Tgtt lol, best bet is to ask on there ;)

But, when supra owners go BPU, they basically all use a restrictor ring in the exhaust to help control boost.......

Getting a new manifold isnt going to help, as that will flow better than the standard one, thus letting the turbo spin up easier, and then it will naturally create more boost.

as of such i doubt anyone makes a restrictor ring for for a starlet, but its not going to cost you alot to get one made up, and will sort the problems...you can then raise the boost using a boost controller.

i refuse to restrict my exhaust as i didnt buy an aftermarket exhaust only to restrict it. I wanna buy supporting mods to sort out the problem. Yeh new mani will flow better but if the mani enables me to run an external wastegate hopefully this will help?

yeah but then if your running a ct9, youll have to find a manifold for that, which you can use with an external wastegate, then you will also need the internal one welded shut, and an external wastegate isnt cheap.

Yes you can port the wastegate, but its more than likely that it will crack..

I would personally just get a restrictor ring in the exhaust, like i said before, its cheap and easy, and it does what its supposed to...(stop the car over boosting)

Or you could go the td04 or ct9 hybrid routes which have wastegates perfectly capable of flowing decent boost.,

Buying an FCD would stop you hitting fuel cut.....but then it could creep to an unsafe boost pressure, with nothing to stop it..

found a manifold that will do the external wastegate, and have no clearance issue's with stock rad either. And i believe you can get some kind of bar adapdter thinng which shuts the old wastegate.
