Tom
Went to a pub quiz last night and got to the pub extra early as it's always packed, 2 friends and I turned up around 6.30 when it was dead and picked out a table at the back for 6 people, we had our meals by 7.30 and were waiting for our other 3 friends to turn up who were all held up by someone jumping infront on their train on the way home, we were expecting them between 8-9ish. By 7.45/8 the place was getting busy and there started to be a shortage of chairs and people kept coming up to us asking if the seats we had free were taken, we relied yes, we are expecting friends any time soon, a few same people kept coming back and giving us the evils as we had a large table and half filled it. It got to about 8.30 and a lady came up to us and was rather rude when she asked is a seat was available, she said her dinner has just been served and she really needs a chair as she would have to kneel on the floor, we said sorry, but we are saving these, she replied with "I hope your not just saving these for the sake of it!" and we replied why would we? lol, literally 20 secs later our 3 friends turned up and taken the seats, now I'm interested to see what peoples opinions are on this as would you have given up the seats or saved them as we did??? My elders think we we wrong to? but I don't see why I should put the others priorities in front of my friends as then they wouldn't have seats when they came in? also when it came to writing a team name we put "get your own chair" it could have really backfired as the team marking our scores was the snotty ladys team! lol
CJ
If I was one of the people who did not have a seat, I would have been annoyed too.

CJ
and I would have been annoyed too had it been the other way round, but it would have been my fault for not getting there earlier That's a strange reply Tom On the one hand you seem to think that the other people were out of order in asking to use the seats and yet you now say you would have been annoyed too. And then you say that it would have been your fault for not getting there earlier implying that you think what you did was OK and that it was the other persons fault

If I arrived at a pub and there were no seats available I would be annoyed, but at myself for not getting there earlier to get a seat. If i went upto the pool table in the pub & it wasnt been used but people were around it, i would ask if them if they minded moving so i could. If they said no they were waiting for someone to play in a minute, i would accept that for 5-10 mins then expect to be let on the table. They definitely would not be keeping the table & not playing for an hour or two. Pool table, chairs, tables, deckchairs lol - if they are not been used when i am wanting to use them why shouldnt i use them as a paying customer etc? lol

Chewie
I would have let them sit at the table telling them only up until when your mates arrive. Then kicked them off. If they were really fit girlies, it's a no brainer. Also what if your mates never did arrive, wouldn't you have felt a right cnut.
Tom
yeah we would have felt bad, but we were expecting another 4 mates and knew that they wouldn't have had seats either.

Jake
Keeping a seat for a few mins is acceptable, anything more than 5mins is taking the piss - IMHO. Especially if you're keeping them for somebody that you don't really know when they're going to arrive.
tbourner
I wouldn't give a crap about my mates anyway if they were late, no matter what the reason. I only hold chairs for people who are there already, ie: in the bog or something.
