Paul
Looking at domestic steam cleaners, want one for both car and home, anyone got any experience of them? Would prefer the ones with a hose, I guess pressure etc. is what determines if they are any good?
Chris Wilson
There was another thread on steam cleaners, worth having a quick search, maybe it was "pressure washers"?
Kev.O
Paul, what did you go for in the end? I'm looking at getting one, mainly for the home
edge
I got a pumped steam cleaner from argos, one of the things that heats the water as you use it and got through 3 in 2 months as they all leaked. Paid a little more for one you fill up and have wait for it to heat the water and thats had some abuse on the car and in the house and has been great. Its a vax one i got from argos but my mum has another make thats similar and thats been going for years.
edge
And they still sell it http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4052968/c_1/1|category_root|Kitchen+and+laundry|14418476/c_2/3|15701316|Vacuum+cleaners|14418639/c_3/4|cat_14418639|Steam+cleaners|14418654.htm
Paul
Paul, what did you go for in the end? I'm looking at getting one, mainly for the home I didn't mate, still wouldn't mind one but I found there were alot of low pressure cheapo crap ones out there and was frightened of buying something with the power of a kettle

I had a good look at that model, then started to read the reviews. This one is a little off putting though: "Although very effective, after only a few hours of use the plastic connections melted . The product was returned, and a cleaner from a different manufacturer purchased."

All steam cleaners like this get quite hot and you can get a nice sting from them but i have used mine for a fair few hours solid repeatedly refilling the tank and its been fine but after my experience with the first lot i had i got the extended warranty thing just incase. I have had a good 2 years or so now so there must be some newer more reliable units out now.
Kev.O
Do you have the one in the link from Argos, or is that the one your mum has?
edge
Do you have the one in the link from Argos, or is that the one your mum has? Yes i have the vax argos jobbie. Not sure of the make of my mums one buts they all seem very similar. Just stay away from them pumped ones. I wouldn't be without a steam cleaner now. Great as we have pets and as i smoke in my cars/van etc it seems to get rid of the smoking smell as all my friends who dont smoke cant smell any. Oh i did have a problem with it. The hose popped out of the connector as i stood on it and pulled it (my bad) was fixed within a few mins.

JustGav
Cheap way. I have a hot tap outside next to my cold tap, i use a normal karcher on it and its great, not steam but seriously hot. I did that for a while with a cheapy B&Q pressure washer, the hot water seemed to melt/push through the seals because about 40 minutes in it went bang in style much to amusement of the neighbour
JamieP
Thats a good idea! Have you used it alot on the hot feed? Yeah loads, i did the same thing in the old house aswell, only problem i had was the lance hose expanded once with the heat couple of years back, bought a new hose and this one has been fine. A job for me to do in the week then. Still got some warranty left on the karcher just incase The proper heated steam pressure cleaners cost a fortune and weigh as much as a small car.
