Mike B
panel beating.... yup, think so.. is there a more technical name?
michael
I think Charlotte may be right but it could also be "Planishing" ?
Kranz
fettling? Or is that just the casting process? I ono?! Fettling is the process of hammering or shot/sand blasting to remove sand from castings I believe. Also used to mean general filing or grinding to make something fit that doesn't quite Tin bashing is what I used to call it, but the correct term is indeed panel beating or sheet metal fabrication. Edit: Errr and what Michael said (who appears to have easy access to a dictionary:))
Ewen
Sometimes called 'raising' to get the approx shape required, then 'planishing' to remove the larger dings caused in the initial shaping. Or at least that is what it was called when I was an apprentice.

That rings a bell, that's probably what made me think to add it to the post. Panel beating sounds like it should still have a "more proper" name though lol. Rob
I thought planishing is when you get thousands of little flat spots in a curved surface. However this shows that it was just my technique that was rubbish.
