My dad has a laptop and is connected to Virgin broadband. He has it positioned in one spot at the mo but he wants to know what he needs to be able to use it in other parts of his house without having a cable trailing wherever he is.

Does he need a wireless thing or whatever??

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Don't stop with just "go wireless" you didn't know about this, so don't know about the extra security involved.

Get a pro to install all. Get you're security up to the best you can deal with.

It's a lot harder to hack a cable between the computer and telephone line than a wireless umbrella over you're house.;)

what would you recommnd for security a dude from virgin comeing to fit internet at my house going to buy wireless router tue before he comes

I'll get flamed here bud. There are some serious computer people here.

Anyway, here goes, you'll need WPA set up, maybe rotating code WEP, but I reckon there's people out there that can get through that quite quickly.

You'll need to change the routers name, all sorts.

McAfee bought a company called Wireless Security Corp. Which apparently were good at Radius server protection. Just reading up on that I'm afraid and don't know if McAfee have incorporated any of that.

The dude from Virgin will probs just get you connected and not worry about anything else. Personally I've had nothing get through McAfee and get nothing dodgy on scans through System Mechanic.

Hopefully someone wil get on this soon and we can both learn. Lol.

Google some of the terms to get more reading bud.
