Be aware you are still liable if you damage someone else’s car.

I’ve got track day insurance as an extension of my current insurance which works out so much cheaper.

I cant stress enough how important it is to have insurance.

I’d be seriously pissed to say the least if someone hit my car and couldn’t pay to have it repaired – if its fixable!

We’re talking serious money for some of the other cars there.

For £80 get it!!

Insurance must be considered in the overall price of the event – if you want to do track days, get insurance for gods sake.

I don’t know why they make it compulsory?

There’s no difference driving on here or the road IMO. Your just as likely to have an accident here.

If you’re on a track without insurance you're bloody stupid.

Sensible bit over:

Right. Fingers crossed for the weather and lets have a good day driving the tits off our cars :D

PS. Hope the burger are as good as last years. I stuffed loads of them into me :)

Jaymdee quoted £80.

I found £120 (IIRC) from an independent but found it was much cheaper through my current insurer as an extension.

Try our clubs insurerer Sky: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=34032

Whats the excess ?

Also what does your policy say with specifics to third parties. I just checked a couple of the policies and they only cover you for damage, what does yours say ?

Also by signing the indemnity form at Marham you are effectively accepting any risk is your own and i don't believe you would be liable for damage to others, which is probably why you would want insurance to cover another driver hitting you.

The company I found is here I emailed them stating it was a charity trackday and RAF Marham was not on their list of tracks. They replied saying if I pick a simlar airfield venue and email them they will cover me for the same amount.

Just done the online quote (using Bruntingthorpe) and it's now showing as £91 with £816 excess, which can be 'insured' for another £60. I think this means that if you need to claim LESS than £816 you don't get anything, but if its more then they pay out.

Also, I think track day insurance ONLY covers the person with insurance. If someone else hits you, you need to take them to court to get them to pay, as it is different from road insurance. ie you've elected to engage in a potentially risky event. Maybe wrong, but I can't see anywhere where track day insurance covers a third party.

Sky don't do track cover any more :(

Quote from the Marham Brief Si posted:

Insurance

It is very unlikely that your normal road insurance policy will cover you for the event. The event insurance will cover you for damage to MOD property and third party liability to other people not participating. Therefore, check with your insurance company and either through them or one of the specialist companies. It is strongly recommended that you take out track day cover for your vehicle, as you or your insurance company must pay for any damage you may cause to other cars. Also, you may wish to consider personal accident insurance; track day accidents are very rare, but if you decide to take your car onto a track, you must be aware that you are accepting the risk to the car, yourself and any passenger. You will be required to sign an indemnity prior to the event, as will any second drivers and passengers.

Mine polciy says:

"Where your vehicle is being used in connection with any such event our maximum liability in respect of death of, or injury caused to, any person will not exceed £10,000,000 per event, unless we have to provide a higher limit as a requirement of the Road Traffic Acts. Please note that whilst the above extension in cover is being used the Accidental Damage excess is increased to 10% of the vehicle value."

My insurance covers me for an already agreed value, plus the trackday insurance covers everything except consumables, so bodywork is also included.

I havent said who they are as its not promoting the clubs insurer, Sky, and you have to be a member of another car club.

My insurer does not offer stand alone trackday insurance unfortunately :(

On a good note though my trackday insurance covers me for exactly the same as my normal, on the road insurance (as this is just an extension), albeit the excess is now 10% of the cars value/agreed sum. :)

I got a quote of £75 for Marham.

However it does not include the following: (see the bold section)

I am confused as to how you get cover in case you hit somebody else.

Does your own insurance cover you for this ? I don't know how somebody could sue you if they have signed ther indemnity form at sign on, surely this means yoiu are taking aprt at your own risk ?

* Damage to the engine or to the gearbox or transmission (unless specified otherwise on the Confirmation of Cover

* Damage to any part that has suffered mechanical or electrical breakdown, howsoever caused

* Liability to other participants, to any third parties or to passengers or any property damage

* Consumable items such as tyres, oils, linings etc.

* Extra costs involved in repairing specialised paintwork and logos unless specifically agreed

* Shipping / Transportation / Recovery costs

* Labour costs in respect of routine dismantling and re-assembly

* Damage caused by direct deployment of fire extinguisher foam (or similar)

* Loss or damage to the car whilst being driven by any person other than those specified within the Confirmation of Cover

* Any loss of revenue / loss of sponsorship or other consequential loss

* Loss or damage caused by "kerbing" (i.e driving over the kerbs of the circuit and damaging the underside of the car - this is considered to be general wear and tear

I’ve asked for the wording to be emailed – I’ve only just taken it out, but spent a while on the phone. This policy took 5 years to arrange apparently, and is the MD’s baby as he’s into trackdays, so I guess it was setup to suit his needs :)

An ‘extension to a policy’ seems to be different to an individual trackday insurance, or at least this is what I found when I rang round.

The only stipulation on my insurance is that it has to be a club event, not any old day. They were happy with this Marham event. This is worth mentioning when getting insurance as it seems easier and cheaper to obtain.

I have just come off the phone and the only thing it doesn’t cover is consumables, just as per your normal insurance.

Thanks.

Labour costs in respect of routine dismantling and re-assembly

It looks to me like your covered for a total loss or parts and materials for fixing the car.

The only reason i would want cover would be incase i hit someone else.

edit: please can you PM the name too

The reason I go to marham is that it's so well policed and so safe. I agree for a track based event, but Marham is very low risk. Saying that, I will be careful as always, and as they say; no racing.... I'll leave that to the go-kart track.

I'm going to enjoy my car, an hopefully some of the others too.

I agree that Marham is very well organised and its a big wide track, but accidents do happen unfortunately. I dont believe there has been any there due the decent attendees and the policing, so lets hope it keeps that way and have a good days driving.

I dont want to put doom and gloom on it, but just please be aware of what could happen. I dont want anyone saying "if only"

I still cant take the risk though.

My other car's insurance includes track day the same as V's. 10% excess, cover as per on the road etc, so long as its a club event, properly marshalled and I tell them before hand.

However, as Colsoop said, one-off trackday cover does not normally cover 3rd parties cars, as it is their responsibility to get insurance, as they are chosing to engage in a risky past-time, fully aware of the risks.

ie if I hit someone else, then if I have insurance, my car gets fixed by my insurance co. If they have insurance their car gets fixed by their insurance co. If one of us doesn't have insurance, then they have to fund the repair themselves.

From the reading I have been doing thats pretty much what I gathered as well. The trackday insurance is not to cover the other person only yourself, its their responsibility to cover their car.

As Marham is only a Few days away i would recommend to all to make sure that all Fluids are in good condition and topped up. With the long straight also at Marham i would suggest making sure also that the correct engine oil is used which can take higher oil temps.

Make sure that all vacuum hoses that go to the Fuel pressure regulator and map sensors are securely tie wrapped as have seen many times these pop off at events and destroy an engine.

Last but not least check all the Suspension for play as well as wheel bearings as i have just found the 2 rear ones on my kitcar have gone and need replacing this week.
