Brake fluid

I'm using Ferodo 5.1 grade on mines. I think you need about two litres. They usually come in 1L bottles so buy 3 and then you have some left over for top ups. If you're worried about not buying enough, get some extra from a place like halfords where they'll give your money back if you haven't used it.

John is right. 1 litre is plenty for a J-spec and leaves enough for subsequent top ups. UK cars may take a bit more as I seem to recall that they have to be bled at the TC unit. Best brake fluid by a mile is Castrol SRF, see here. PM me if you want some.

This might be a dumb question but how do you do a full brake fluid flush? I mean, how do you know when all the old fluid is out?

As soon as clean fluid comes out the bleed nipple on the caliper the old fluid is out of that particular line. Bleed all four till you have clean fluid coming out each bleed nipple - job done.

So it's largely guesswork is it? When I fitted my front UK brakes (on my old Supe) the fluid looked no different to the new fluid once I'd got all the bubbles out properly.
