It's always difficult to tell who has the advantage , it's common practice to sandbag as some of them especially the front runners won't want to reveal what speed they've got. :)

Nah, last winter ferrari and mclaren were usually best in the tests. Toyota usually sucked haha :D

Why would they hold back anyway, now testing is so limited?!

They still do it to some extent, if you follow F1 intently like I do you'll know that it's mentioned frequently. :)

LOL not true I'm afraid. (Sandbagging, not your F1 following :) )

Every team is trying to put in the fastest times possible all the time. What is often perceived as "sandbagging" during tests is that you have to test at various fuel loads. Sometimes you test with a full fuel load, and sometimes with a minimum fuel load.

Often teams that are shall we say underperforming will take all the fuel out of the car, and then take some of the ballast out too, and run the car underweight in order to post a quick time in the hope to attract sponsership. Then quelle surprise they end up at the back of the grid come qualifying in Melbourne.

Usually the most representative thing to look at is the average between the drivers.

The track was at it's worst today. Very wet overnight and cold during the morning so didn't really dry out till the afternoon, so if you put a good time in yesterday, you'd have struggled to beat it today.

The times mean nothing for now, wait until February for proper times.

Only half the teams have launched their 2008 cars. All the cars are running different schedules, in LATE Feb things should settle down.

Also, the track has been wet everyday this week.

The teams move to Valencia for next week and the new Williams FW30 is first out the door for releases.

Force India and Torro Rosso will be using last years car with new bits bolted on for 2008.

That's exactly what I meant. ;)

I know they can't deliberatly go slower as this is very difficult to do this consistently not to mention the fact that it's easily picked up by other teams who monitor such things such as max engine rpm using fancy gadgets.

It's still known as "sandbagging".:p
