amateurish electric question

ive got the el2 meter system from apexi, the one where the gauges all plug into a central control box. all the instructions r in japanese, so im using the english instructions for the el1 meters. i have a question regarding the fitting of this control box. there r three wires from it, a red a yellow and a black. the older el1 system has these labeled up as:-

red = 12v ignition on

yellow = to parking light power, 0v when off and 12v when on

black = earth

red and black i understand but whats a "parking light" ? is this just yr lights?

i have two options for the location of this control box. one is in the drivers side and the other in the passenger side. can anyone tell me the best places to connect these wires for both sides please.

what type of join (connectors) is good to use when t'ing into thes size wires.

thanks in advance.

ps. apexi have declined to reply to emails regarding this. thanks apexi

In the circuit diagram on MKIV.com the "parking lights" are connected to the green wire that also runs to the tail lights. It looks like they come on with the rest of the lights. I'm not sure if this wire is green on J-spec cars...

I dont know what the el2 meter system does but maybe it needs

night time illumination?

If your car is right hand drive the the wiring for just about anything can be pcked up in the footwell. +12v, 0V and a light feed can also be found near the stereo.

To T into the wires bare about 10mm using a stanley knife taking care not to cut the copper itself, twist the strands up a little, bare the same amount of your flying lead and wind it round the bared copper. Apply a little solder and hey presto!

I think these are re-branded Defi-gauges.

Try looking them up on the net, not sure whether they may have more info.

I find it a little safer just to melt off the insulation with the iron, no chance of cutting by mistake.
