AJI
Hi people, I am wanting to paint my front plastic bumper, which is currently black, to silver. I have been to a bodypainting shop but they said it would be pointless as the paint would crack and start stripping off due to the flexibility of the plastic bumper. I have noticed a number of Supras that have a colour coded front bumper and was wondering if this was the case? I mentioned using special flexi-paint but they still said it would crack off. So how have people got their front bumpers colour coded? Cheers, AJI
Brian Jackett
Just paint it in normal paint. It will only crack if it is hit. Try another paint shop! regards
Brian Jackett
Do you mean the lower lip that retracts. If you do mean that then, if will flake. Sorry thought you meant the bumper and spoiler front

AJI
Sorry, I should be more clear. I am talking about the lower flexible plastic bumper. The one just above where the active spoiler comes down under. Above this bumper is the actual front nose bodywork which is silver like the rest of my car. Hope this clarifies what I'm talking about. Alex
AJI, I think for a lasting job you need to replace it with a lowerlip spoiler - which will also remove the need of the active unit... But if you can find some you need to get a paint with a rubbery quality. Paints that form a rubbery layer are prone to flaking off and in large obvious chunks... Have a search on the web - go to the ICI and DuPont sites see if there is anything obvious. you may need to prep the surface first which will mean it will not be possible to go back again once you've started. Guest Mycroft
The bumper moulding is PUR (poly-urethane) any good paint supplier will sort out the correct two-pack for you. if you are lucky you might find a candid one who will tell who does the best spray job locally. Digsy
Brian Duff has painted Angie's lower lip. Looked nice too. Next time he pops in I'm sure he will tell you all about it.
