Is my IC modified ?

If it's a Blitz LM, which is the only Blitz one as far as I know then as standard the pipes come out straight from the end tanks, not backwards at an angle like yours. So I guess it's been modified.

Here's a pic of my Blitz LM I found lying around (the photo that is, not the IC!).

looks like you have an IC for a skyline gtr, the end tanks are different from the supra due to the positioning of the pipe route on the skyline.

hope this helps.

Yup is a GTR intercooler. They have slighty different size outlets also, although never seen one with 4" outlet.

Took my IC off recently to replace all silicon with samco extreme and put on mikalor clamps. However, is it normal to have a 4" in and 3" out ?

well whoever did it obviously knew their stuff as the inlet side has the hot air from the turbo, as it passes through the intercooler it cools and contracts so a smaller tube is needed on the outlet

Just on this point, the skyline has the turbos on the other side to the supe so originally it would have been designed to have the 3inch on the inlet.

Obviously this hasn't effected the performance on your car as it goes like a rocket ;)

Surely the pipework should be the same size or larger as you move away from the turbos. It will create back pressure on the turbo and make any throttle body bigger than 75mm a waste of time.

no this is a common misconception its basic physics (gas law), hot gas expands cold gas contracts, as it contracts it takes up less room hence you can use smaller pipework on the cold side, there are other factors that apply like velocitys and flow rates and there are some pretty simple equations to work all this out but it gets a bit more tricky once you introduce intercoolers and bends into a system, i dont know how much power a 75mm throttle body would support but i would bet its near to 800hp !

i think there is also a lot of marketing hype with intercoolers, and exhausts for that matter, that bigger and huge has got to be better, its really not necesarily the case

I concur paul, should reduce any pressure drop given the reduction in pipe size

This makes perfect sense. What I don't understand, is why some Jap tuning houses used three inch inlet and four inch outlet continued four inch right to the throttle body.

The IC in concerned in this thread, from a Skyline, had its inlet side as three inch and the outlet at four inch. I assume the IC was modified in Japan. So why the larger outlet? Given the excellent explanation above it does not make sense. Surely our Japanese friends would not make such a basic mistake.
