MrHanky
Hi, This weekend will see the departure of my Supra and in its place for my wife (as I am having her car) is going to be a Mondeo (deep joy). I will be going for the TDCI and just wanted anybody's opinion on the following. Should I go for a 115bhp one with a higher spec and better condition? or go for a 130bhp (crazy power) with lower spec and perhaps not as good condition? Just wondering if there is anybody on here who has some experience with these. Thanks Mark
jamesmark
To be fair there is not much difference really between the two. The 130ps has a 6 speed box. Most Mondeo's have the same spec. You should be able to get a well maintained 130ps with mid to high miles with FSH for good money as Mondeos do not command a lot of money. Both have 4 x elec windows, climate, cruise, cd, EW. Unless you're going for an old model then cruise might not be an option, but on newer ones the LX model has all those mod cons on it.
merckx
My dad has the 2.2 TDCI 155 Bhp, It's really nice to drive.
Havard
I have the 130ps and it's great to drive. Wouldn't like any less power though as it isn't particulatly nippy! My missus has a 320d that would rape it!! The mondeo is a great car though, solid and reliable. Just a bit shit to look at!! H.
MrHanky
cheers people. As much as I hate to say it, I don't think they are bad cars and aren't terrible to look at either. Think I will keep an eye out for a 130 then, although there is a nice 115 Ghia just down the road from me for a decent price. I really cannot be bothered to travel too far for a Mondeo..... for a car I really want I would travel anywhere in the country, but not for a Mondeo Thanks again Mark
jamesmark
Spec on the 2 cars as I said are similar, a Ghia will have a high spec early Ghia's may not have leather as standard. Performance 115ps 0-60 is 10.5 124mph top end, 50 mpg 130ps 0-60 is 9.5 129 mph top end, 48 mpg So as you can see there is nothing between them, I would be tempted with the 115ps if in your budget. Unless you are towing a trailer or a caravan the 130ps will not off much more tbh. http://www.parkers.co.uk
Homer
Having gone from 545bhp to 115bhp, you won't notice any real difference between ANY model of 'normal' car in terms of their power or driveabilty - everything will feel slow. If you must got for a mondeo then go for the tidier and better speced example. You're not buying it for it's power are you

I remember when I bought my CRX and thought 130bhp was a lot

I started looking at the Audi's as well but I would need to pay 1k - 2k more for similar spec and miles. Nice cars though
