hey there i work in a tv shop (comet) and would recommend either a panasonic or a samsung both good value for money and the picture is fantastic. wouldnt bother goin for a 1080p tv just yet as there isnt much that fully uses this only blueray so unless u have a ps3 or paid out lots for a blueray player and then pay out £20 for every dvd. What type of programmes do you watch i.e sport movies play games etc because lcd and plasma both have there pros and cons if you have any specific Qs jus send us a message.

if u could stretch or shop around i'd recomend this tv http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=383732&tab=specification#spec it a plasma as well which has a faster refresh rate than a lcd of equal spec and price, which is much better for faster images like football, racing or action you dont get ghostin (shadow followin image i.e blur followin ball or car) and it has built in digital tuner which will be helpful when the change over happens as not many people rellise that you will need two digital sources if u want to record (unless u have sky+ or V+) ohh and it has a much better contrast ratio.

Carlos is right!

I did a load of research into which is the best 42" TV before Christmas as we wanted to buy one for our man and dad.

The best is the Pioneer, I'll not tell you the model as it's a little expensive for you at approx £1350 minimum.

Now come the Samsung PS42Q97HDX and the Panasonic TH42PX70 , the Samsung is cheaper. They both give really good pictures with standard definition tv and obviously better with HD.

Are they an agent for these brands that they slag off Rich!

I have made mistakes in the past with certain makes but Panasonic and Toshiba have never let me down. I looked really long and hard when buying my 37" Plasma and the Panasonic Viera walked it by a mile in my eyes. 5yr guarantee and wonderful sound quality. I did nearly go for the Samsung but the sound was woeful!!

H.

Don't think they're an agent for any makes tbh. I spoke to a few different guys who worked there and they all gave me honest opinions - some really liked one screen, but the next guy would slag it off. I simply went on which screen performed the best when stood alongside it's rivals. IMO, Sharp, LG and Philips were unrivalled by anyone.

That said, you went for a plasma, which I know little about!

My mate brought his BluRay disk player round over the weekend and I was blown away by the picture quality! I've got a 32" LCD (so not 1080p), yet the picture was crystal clear. From a personal perspective, I think the improvement to 1080p will be quite hard to see over "normal" HD. I'm happy to be proved wrong though!

definatly i cant see much of a difference all it means is the way the picture is refreshed a 1080 i (interlaced) means that the picture is drawn lines 1 3 5 7 9 and so on then the tv scans in the lines 2 4 6 8 10 where as 1080 p (progressive) means it scans in 1 go, lines 123456789 and so on it just better when it comes to faster moving objects but i cant see a massive diff. and i watching tv every day lol.
