Pete
no, rupees Have a look on ebay It sounded a lot to me also, but shockingly they do seem to get quite high money after searching the completed auctions. Between 400 for basic console to 500 if they've got all the bits. (ommiting the usual bargains at £250 for a 60Gb UK console for the moment)
Multics
The reason is that they're discontinued and replaced by a 40gb model which has less USB ports, no CF reader and no backwards compatibility meaning that it cannot play PS2 games. Flip
When the 80gb version eventually graces our shores it will have a software emulator for backwards compatibility (as opposed to the hardware emulator in the 60gb version) so all is not lost! Yet.

Yet. I was certain the 60GB PAL version had this (software emulator) since release, hence the firmware updates to increase backwards compatibility? The emotion engine and something else was removed for PAL consoles. The hardware emulator in the 60gb version you mentioned was only present in the NTSC machines (US, Japan, Asia etc). Im certain Multics EU version is PAL so will be software emulation for PS2 games.

This was my understanding as well, I also heard that even the software emulation is being dropped from all future PS3 models, so the (fabled) 80Gb will not have backwards compatibility for PS2 titles either Mike
Multics
Thanks, another reason to grab this one And yeah I'm crap in warhawk and in any FPS on console. Can't get used to the sticks. I need mouse and keyboard to frag

I'm not sure how as it's mainly software emulation... Yes, the Jap/US 60gb's intially had the PS2 emotion engine on a chip, so backwards compatibility was performed at a hardware level. Shame none of the 20's/40's/80 models support it! Get a 60Gb off eBay while you can. Gran Turismo 4 when upscaled does seem reasonable, but I'm still waiting for GT5. Still, if anyone wants a kicking at Resistance Fall of Man please let me know Good luck with the sale, it's a lot of kit, but I just think 500 ovno is a bit steep.
