SUPRASUZUKI
Shisha smoke is NOT as harmful as your cigerette in most cases as the water in the bowl filters out alot of the harmful chemicals like tar, etc.. Contrary to popular misconception. If you smoke the herbal stuff, that has no tobacco in it whatsoever. Yes we know it's not gonna make you live another 100 years, but it's NOT the same as smoking cigerettes; nor are its effects. There's no tabacco in a house fire. Your lungs don't care where the smoke comes from mate.
saboteur
That sounds quite contradictory to me. I have read that the majority of people who use shisha are Muslim and yet you say it is forbidden by Islam. Does that mean that any Muslim using shisha is breaking their own rules? If I were to explain to you the actual rulings in islam, the supra server would probably go down! lol. But put it this way; if muslims wanted to live as true muslims in this country then they would have to move abroad. It's simply NOT possible. So yes, they are breaking their own rules, but the same can be said for christians. Your devout muslims dont smoke or drink, etc... Oh another misconception is that the majority of shisha smokers are muslim; not so anymore... It's pretty big with all students nowadays here in the UK. A well setup pipe with herbal tobacco and mild charcoal quantity is fine imo.
Multics
How will the second hand smoke effect any average person? They're all there to smoke, kill themselves, whatever.... thats upto them, it has NOTHING to do with the government. Oh, and the funniest paradox is that more than 70% of the price of a pack of fags goes to the same government that bans its usage in public places. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same tax they're collecting out of it that funds the anti-tobacco campaigns
jamesmark
If you ask me, this is more then just a ban, I think there is something more sinister going on... As CJ has asked for you to elaborate on this I would love to know what you meant by this too. I hope your not going to pull the boring "we are the victims, we're being singled out" rubbish? I have read that the majority of people who use shisha are Muslim and yet you say it is forbidden by Islam. Does that mean that any Muslim using shisha is breaking their own rules? Just sounds like they abide by rules when it suits them and fcuk them off when it doesn't and pull the race card. I personally couldn't give a stuff if people smoke or drink or whatever. I don't smoke and I tend to binge drink occasionally but I have no problem if people smoke around me or with me or if they have a drink everyday. The only thing I can say I really like about the ban is not stinking when I come home from a night out, apart from that I'm not fussed. You clearly have the utmost respect for all cultures I can see... Let me just spell it out; please do not label it as shisha = muslim just like terrorist = muslim has been conditioned in the british publics mind. saboteur
OK, so other than that, what is this conspiracy theory? Mate, I'm quite a cynical person and I often think when there is NO reason to enforce something then there could be a hidden agenda. I do not have an answer for you, just a feeling... boombastictiger
I don't know anything about the smoking method shown but as it involves tobacco then I assume it is harmful. Why can't people accept the laws of the land? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/7188402.stm Thats a touchy subject..... When the smoking ban came in they effectively cut a huge part of my social life out.. PEOPLE ONLY GO TO SHISHA CAFES TO SMOKE SHISHA..., thats what alot of people on here dont understand and most of people in general. Its like going to a pub, the main thing is the drinks and the atmosphere.. Shisha cafes are the same thing, the main thing is the shisha its an alternative to drinking and clubbin, you can sit back and chill, and as a shisha pipe can last a few hours it helps pass time... I used to go edgware road nearly every night in holidays and chill with my friends. You dont get drunk people falling about and starting fights, and the music isnt so loud as so that you cant hear what people are saying. You can just chill sit back etc....The shisha helps pass the time... So many idiots keep comming out saying that why do people keep complaining about it, a ban is a ban...well its ok for some, but imagine they decided to close pubs because they felt that drunken disorders affect the other sobre people inside.....similar principle...You DONT go into a shisha cafe unless you want to smoke shisha.., simple as....its like me walking into a pub and then complaining that people are drinking...its stupid and would make me look like and idiot... 2 of my good friends have lost thier businesses because of the ban...the government and people in general dont realise that people go to smoke shisha and not for anything else, the drinks and food they get are just extra.... I can understand if it was a restaurant or something who were selling shisha, thats fair enough...but a SHISHA cafe only sells shisha, so dont go in unless you want to smoke otherwise it aint for you... So many shisha cafes have closed now, because no one is gonna smoke outside in this weather...but they have really reduced alot of peoples social lives....theres nothing else to do that can compete on a social level....alot of the people who go to shisha cafes dont drink, so your not gonna find them in bars or pubs...and theres only so much clubbing you can do.....shisha clubs were open until all hours of the morning...thats pretty much all gone.. Class One
Can I just say... I am in a position to speak on this topic as I run a shisha business.. whine whinge whine whinge whine whinge...........................................................................................whine whinge whine whinge whine .................................................................................................. There is absolutely no grounding for enforcing this law at all. How will the second hand smoke effect any average person? They're all there to smoke, kill themselves, whatever.... thats upto them, it has NOTHING to do with the government. This really does need reviewing as I personally know peoples livelyhood has been taken away from them and there businesses. If you ask me, this is more then just a ban, I think there is something more sinister going on... Rastafarians see it as their cultural and religious right to smoke ganja yet this is against the law. No allowance is made for them There is a pub near me in the Cotswolds, that has been selling clay pipes and different blended tabbacos for over 200 years and people travel from miles around to enjoy their wares. They still sell the stuff but their customers have to consume it off the premises because that is the law. No doubt however, with our caring sharing "lets embrace all things diverse and multicultural" Government, some allowance will be made after a legal challenge so that 0.000000000000001% of the populace can go on to enjoy something because they see it as their cultural right, but sod everyone else eh? Scoboblio
There's no tabacco in a house fire. No, but there are deadly toxins from your burning furtniture, plastics etc. Smoke from a house fire is going to be about a million times more deadly than smoking a ciggy. I fail to see how they can justify smoking tobacco products on their premises, but surely something containing no tobacco wouldn't be covered under the ban? ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! Can people stop arguing and see this issue with a more open mind. If you dont smoke shisha then it wont affect you... if there is ever public drinking ban, i'm certain that that same people here will start another thread with a slightly more sympathetic view! ivan
If the 0.000000000000001% of the populace don't like it then as far as I'm concerned they know what to do.
Scoboblio
For the conspiracy theorists out there, there's no hidden agenda - they simply want us all to live healthier so we can carry on working longer (into our 70's) to support the ageing population and help fill the gigantic pension gap. Living healthy you say? Do you know the effects that alcahol has on your liver? Do you know that britain is internationally known for binge drinking? It's practically the capital of the world for this shit... What has the government done about this? The reason is simple; taxes!

Tourniquet
You clearly have the utmost respect for all cultures I can see... Not particularly no. I work in Ilford and am surrounded by people who hate my land and everything about it (fair enough, their oppinion) yet they take all the benefits being here gives them (just plain c*ntish). This is England pal, you (not you personally) have the freedom of speech but you also have the freedom to go else where if it's not your cup of tea. Live our way or bugger off, tis simple. I want to live abroad but I am going to try a country who's way of life, culture and laws are something I can live with and enjoy. I'm not gonna go somewhere, break their laws and rip the arse out of the place by taking what I can get and slagging them and trying to murder them whilst doing it.
