Carl_S
I'm starting my Gym instructor course on Friday. I hope to have qualified in April, so if I can help after then, I will give professional advice. As it is now I can only offer my own experience as a gym-goer. I train with weights 5 times a week for myself, and lost 3 stone in weight last year, and gained muscle and tone. Still have work to do though. bonus_2000
Hi guys, thanks for all the replies! I have been training now for near on 4 years, and never thought I would take to it in the way I have, as I never really had an interest in it before I started the gym. I have managed to put on what I consider for me a fair amount of weight in the time I have trained. I weighted a little under 12 stone before I started, and now before Xmas weighed just under 15. Caught the bug over xmas, and lost 1/2 stone I have found as time goes on, obviously the gains seem to get less, so chop my program around as much as I can. I have become friends with many of the other guys down there, many of them have trained for years. I always get my programs written for me by one of the instructors, but my latest one, after my gym buddy looked at it, says it won't do much for me and it was too generic, and he thinks that after 4 years I should know what works best for me. What I really want to gain on more than anything is my chest, as I think this is my weak body part. He put together an alternate routine for me and just wondered what any of you guys thought. My old program looks like this for chest: Incline bench - 6 sets of 6 Flat dumbell press - 4 sets of 8 Incline cable super set with cable cross over - 4 sets of 10 & 10 Then my bicep routine I have been training on the gym programs since I started there, but don't feel like I have progressed as much as I should have in the last 18 months, so here is what my friend put forward. Flat bench - 3 warm up sets 8 heavy sets to failure - looking to get between 6 - 10 reps per set Finish off with 3 - 4 sets of flat flyers - 8 - 12 reps Then my bicep routine I did this tonight and I'm aching, so I mean it must have done something. Here are my recordings: Bench: 1) 100kg / 9 2) 100kg / 7 3) 100kg / 5 4) 95kg /5 5) 90kg / 10 6) 90kg / 6 7) 90kg / 6 8) 80kg / 8 Flyer: 1) 15kg / 15 2) 20kg / 8 3) 20kg / 7 I am trying to eat well too, and am trying to consume 4 - 5 meals a day and I am taking the usual protein suppliments. Any comments welcome
Burna
Finally got around to weighing myself on Sunday after everyone keeps asking me how much I have lost (I don't own any scales) and discovered I have lost 3 stone in 7 months And yes I am bragging as I'm bloody chuffed Wouldn't mind loosing a little bit more, then I would like to tone up a bit but I find it hard to find any exercise that doesn't put strain on my knee
SmigzyTT
Bonus, TBH mate, i think you have got too many sets in there, you should up the weight and do 5 sets of 5, works a treat for me and quite a few other that i've seen. I suppose it depends what your long term goals are. You've packed quite a bit on while you've been training but to stop the plateau you need to go heavy for short sets. 5x5 or 4x6 or even 3x8. Whats your diet like? Are you taking protien supplements or is it meal replacement drinks? (Burna - well done mate, you should be well chuffed with that!!!!) My diet can be a bit up and down, due to my work, but I try to do the best I can. I am tending to eat thoughout the day in smaller amounts, if I can. I am taking whey protein only, and roughly 3 times daily, and of course directly after training. TBH im not always great at sticking to it though!
