Matt H
Most of our fav shows are in jeopardy due to a strike by the writers in America over basically their cut of profits from shows. Even though most of the shows have episodes already written, almost non of the real cream of the crop shows such as LOST have a full season. Lost season 4, which starts in feb in the UK only has 8 episodes written . Considering a season usually has about 21+ it’s a bit of a bummer for the fans, especially after watching the trailer for season 4, having to stop watching a third of the way through is going to be sh*te to say the least! Have a look here for details of the strike: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike And hear for the oddles of shows effected http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effect_of_the_2007%E2%80%9308_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike_on_television Gona be a cr*p year for you're fav tv shows if its doesn’t get sorted soon Especailly for people like me who dont really watch tv, and when they do its for stuff like Lost / prison break etc

Rob
Oh, I really feel for the writers of Lost, they've already been paid enough to string the thing out for 4 seasons with still no sign of a conclusion. I gave up after season 1.

Pete
Didn't you see what the Golden Globes show had been reduced to due to this? I reckon they should leave it up to the fan base to come up with the scripts.

Its not a bad idea, thats how they do alot of the ("saw") film writing stuff, input from fans and the like
keancy
Lost is like Marmite to me. I love it and I hate it. Hate how after every episodes I have more questions then answers, love it because it's addictive and I mustn't miss any. Also the writers strike is a bummer for CSI and the likes. Pete
it was the celebs that did that in respect of the writers I did wonder how the writers had that much power when I caught a snapshot of it on TV this morning. It's all related though.

Ark
So watch some decent (read: British) programming instead. Or read a book. Or have a conversation with your intellectual peers. Or do some DIY. There really is plenty left in life without the television.

CJ
If you're life feels deprived without manufactured yank programming, then I guess there's no help for you anyway. I'm not sure where I fit in here then. I read every day and I attempt to chat to my Greek peers every day in order to better understand the culture and language. I also miss programs like Lost and Heroes as I find them entertaining. Does that mean I am half as helpless as Matt? Or does it mean my interests are more rounded than yours? JustGav
As much as I do miss my programs, I do support the writers and agree with why they are striking.

I think i agree, altough i'm not well up on what they get paid and their cut etc. Do you know what sort of fees / and or percentages they currently recieve? I think the whole matter if to do with no recieving any loyalties or a cut for new media formats like the internet and dvds etc
JustGav
You are indeed correct. Writers get paid for the script and then get what is called a residual, which is a top up payment for things like dvd releases and the like. The industry (read studios) feel they shouldn't get paid for internet downloads for things such as movies, trailers and scripts. Given the fact that the industry is moving to a very active 'on-demand' type system the writers stand to loose a lot if they don't get paid. An example would be a home user downloading a bought/rented movie onto their xbox360 from the market place, under the current system they wouldn't get paid for it. If you went out and bought the dvd you would give them a percentage.
Snooze
Whats that about mate? TV adaptation of George RR Martin's Song of Fire and Ice. My favourite books ever! Medieval/fantasy setting but more realistic than your usual Lord of The Rings fare - all the murdering / raping you would expect! And the good guys usually end up dead (murdered / raped / etc.)! And after HBO put plenty money into Rome, and didn't shy away from the sex and violence, and George Martin himself was writing some of the episodes, I had pretty good hopes for it.. RedM
Matt, FYI there are three more seasons of Lost. Each will be 16 episodes long. They are intended to be shown without a break but season 4 will air for half it's run initially. Bit of a shame for such a 'short' season. Heroes has been changed to reflect the uncertainty but it should suffer too much. As for British TV and 'manufactured' Yank TV. All TV is manufactured FFS. The day the Brits come up with a series like Lost, Heroes, Battlestar, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under etc etc will be a cold day in Hell. This country seems to lack the foresight to plot a series beyond 12 episodes. Can we not cope or something? Look back to Babylon 5 with it's five year main story. I bet Brit writers would have crammed that into 12 episodes and made it look like it too. American drama is head and shoulders above the shite from over here.
