SupraShaun
Hi all, i have a lot of bulbs gone on my dash and seeing as its never light at the moment its starting to get on my nerves! Hopefully someone can help me out with sizes (so i can buy them from somewhere at a reasonable price rather than trading bulbs for vital organs down at Toyota) and also whether the LED's are twist fit or solder. First of all lights on Temp dial are gone, all the lights on the AC button bit, window switches on the doors and the lighter. Also is the TC switch supposed to back lit? I have done a search for this but people just say its a standard Toyota bulb and i cant find any instructions on how to replace bulbs. Any help would be much appreciated! JustGav
When you say a lot, do you mean all or just 1 or 2. From your description it doesn't sound like it bulbs, it seems to be more likely to be the dimmer or a fuse. Lots of bulbs don't usually go pop. SupraShaun
Hi Gav, dimmer is fine as dials etc are all working. Its just the bulbs/ leds described dont think its fuse as for example on the drivers door window switch only one out of the two leds has gone. jevansio
The bulbs you need are those push fit ones (which have the glass base with the metal contacts bent over them). You need to remove the gauge cluster (just some screw in various dash panels) & the bulbs fit in holders which push & twist into the back of the dial cluster. Once you get the dial cluster out everything will become apparent.

Similar. Can't be sure they're exactly the same as that type of bulb holder unless someone knows the part number? I think they're the 5w 501 bulbs. cheap as chips from a motor factor (like 40p each IIRC). But I recall someone saying the 501 was brighter than the ones in there..... Maybe they are R286's which are only 1.2w??
Kranz
Right, think I have it sorted. Both the 501 and 286 are used. 501 in the instruments (with the exception of 1 x 286 for the temp gauge) and 286 elsewhere I think?

AndrewOW
Hi Shaun. Any updates?
SupraShaun
Sorry for the delay mate, i took the ac control bit out and the 286's dont fit. Behind the the temp/ speed control knobs are very small screw fit bulbs, i have been looking on the web for some with no success (Hopefully someone can help). As for the bulbs behind the heater directions etc they are soldered on, so i would imagin they have to be de-soldered and then new ones soldered on. AndrewOW
Well if they need resoldering etc., I may see how much it costs to get the dash converted to LEDs, but if someone can point us in the right direction for those bulbs, then that may suffice for now

AndrewOW
I've just done a search, and obviously lots of people have done these conversions, but I would like an idiots guide on what to buy and where from (bulbs/resistor/wiring etc.). Those El-Glo (group buy) dials look great too! I will probably use Heckler's guide, but I haven't got a soldering iron etc., which could cause a problem! I'd like to have a go at doing it myself, but I don't want to risk buggering up the dash! Can anyone help?
