Guest dori dori
Hi guys, does anyone know the compression specs on a VVTi 2JZ-GTE? Cheers Grant
Jake
What do you mean by Specs?
Alex
Should be the same as any other engine...all cylinders should be within a ~2% of each other. 170psi is a good engine.
Kranz
The actual pressure is not that important. As guages are wildly innacurate (especially the cheaper ones) then don't worry about the pressure too much, its the spread of pressures you need to be looking at. As Alex says, 2% spread between the cylinders would be a perfect result. 5% is a very good result and what you would expect for a new-ish to medium milage good engine. 10% is about the limit before you need to consider further investigation and shows a worn engine. Always do compressions with a fully charged battery (on a booster is best to keep the cranking speeds consistent) and do it with a hot engine. Disable the fuel pump & do it with all 6 plugs out (leave the plugs in the ends of the coil packs though & allow them to earth so the coil pack can spark). Crank with the throttle wide open until the cylinder result peaks. If you get a low reading a teaspoon of oil down the bore will tell you if its rings (result will be higher) or valves leaking (result will be the same). A leakdown test using compressed air is a more accurate method of measuring ring/bore condition. Apologies if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs
