hadyn
point is if it reads upto 110mph on the speedo, the chances are its still calibrated in kms isnt it?
Jake
point is if it reads upto 110mph on the speedo, the chances are its still calibrated in kms isnt it? Yes, definitely. It's just had the speedo dial changed rather than an electronic KPH-to-MPH converter fitted. It could still have been top-speed delimited though, they're often seperate bits of kit (although you can get combined ones too)
hadyn
excellent!! really looking forward to picking this up on saturday as long as everything works out ok at torque's end
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
car should have 61,250 uk miles tell them to knock off another £500 i only say this cos u said it had 98km which is about 61,000 uk miles, and they have advertised with 56,000 uk miles which is about 89,000km. dont worry about it, i had a car from japan and i advertised in england with 72,000 uk miles and when it arrived from japan it had 67,000 uk miles, so i guess it works both ways. that car is nice by the way and at a reasonable price enjoy
hadyn
what about that groaning from the front right hand side of the car when on full lock turning at low speeds??? Has to be the power steering pump doesnt it?
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
what about that groaning from the front right hand side of the car when on full lock turning at low speeds??? Has to be the power steering pump doesnt it? just check the fluids, normally they are quiet. best advice stick it on the technical section the someone will be more definite on the cause. just let the mechanical whizkids tell u
eldudereno
Yes, the power steering fluid could be low, there could also be air in the system. The pump could be on it's way out but no car likes power steering on full lock when it's stationary.
hadyn
you cant hear the groan when stationary only when moving

hadyn
when driving at low speeds jurgen, usually turning at a junction that sort of thing
eldudereno
you cant hear the groan when stationary only when moving Maybe it's just hard to hear when you're moving because of the road noise etc. If this groaning noise is present when not moving the steering or just moving it gently, I would say you definitely need a new pump. Best to get one before the metal debris from it damages the rest of the power steering system.
hadyn
the noise is not present when not moving the steering or moving it gently only on full lock, when the vehicle is moving at low speeds
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
when driving at low speeds jurgen, usually turning at a junction that sort of thing that doesnt sound right, somebody please correct me if am wrong. hadyn a would find out what it is before you buy it, or at least if u are desperate for the car point this noise to the seller and get him to do some cover regarding steering and driveshafts that sort of thing, if budget is tight am sure you dont want more costs, good luck. eldudereno
Just make sure you check the fluid level first. It probably is on it's way out but will last for a few miles yet. No worries though, if you do have to replace it, I'm sure you'll pick a second hand one up on here. You've still got a bloody nice looking car though for a very nice price! hadyn
im thinking as it only happens on the right and at low speeds it could also possibly be pads or discs?????
eldudereno
Nah, won't be your brakes if it only happens when turning the wheel.
Keith C
Probably happens only at low speeds because you can't hear it over the rest of the wind/road/engine at higher speeds. Probably PAS pump, it's in that area. Try getting the front up and stick your head underneath and getting someone to turn the wheel for you. Clear indicators on red wil look, well, gash Plus your first mod should be a boost guage, so that when you do that decat you can make sure you're not running 1.8 bar and are about to turn the turbos to dust and the pistons to charcoal. hadyn
how much are PAS pumps?
CJ
how much are PAS pumps? No doubt not cheap - but there again, feck all is cheap when you buy parts for a Supra You may be able to get one second hand from a scrappy though.
Jake
how much are PAS pumps? I've been talking to CW about this recently. Apparently, they're about £350 new. Also, if the PAS pump has failed you may need to change the steering rack as well because it sends bits of metal throughout the whole hydraulic steering system. Mind you, Chris is not an optimist
hadyn
theres no groaning noise when stationary though and turning the wheel to full lock on the right. Subframe bolts perhaps?

There wont be any noise when stationery only when you turn the wheel. Almost a cert it is steering related

CJ
I have just been thinking (a very dangerous concept), might the problem be the wheel bearings?
