erol_h
I was speaking with my friends and they were saying you would get a better take off if i held the brake down built up my revs and then let rip. Would my gearbox take this stress or is it a no no.

Your box has a stall of about 2200 rpm so building the power up to 2000rpm then taking your foot off the brake and flooring it would have better results! Remember though its also a really good way to kill your gearbox
michael
^^ what he said, not something you need to be doing at every junction but useful on the 1/4 or just for amusement once in a while. If you are going to do it make sure the 'box fluid is healthy to start with.
erol_h
ok great i will only resort to those tactics if im up against a real challenege otherwise i will stay away from it dont wana take the box out thanks.
juanchan
But remember you can also pick up stock auto boxes for next to nothing if it does go pear-shaped
erol_h
I wount be ripping the s**t out the box more for emergencies only. Such as last year had a race against a z06 corvette he had about 440hp where his v8 produced good torque at low revs he got about 3cars lengths on me till i got into my power range then we stayed in our postions till top speed. Gazboy
Don't have both feet in for long or you will boil your ATF fluid.

juanchan
Don't some people call this "power braking"? I've done it once and it definitely felt like the car launched quicker. Whether or not it was though, I've no idea.
MrRalphMan
Yep, it is called power braking.. It's the equivilant of riding the clutch in a Manual.... Again something I try not to do.
SILKYSMOOTH
Your choice. Thats right, my choice, and its not worth the hassle. Besides my car doesn't need it, you will find rolling for the 1st couple of feet before flooring it works better in an auto. However I did try this in my brothers 280 merc in reverse and that was fun!
