AshBhp
Where is this information from? If i remember correctly its in the small print when you get the kit and HKS said the same thing when the person with the broken crank had issues. jevansio
.....and I'm sure in Japan more people are running HKS The good thing is as I'm not planning on doing this till later in the year, it'll take me till then to decide. SimonB
I would not get the HKS stroker kit as there are rated for only 6500 rpm only, any more prolonged rpm will snap the crank. However Brian Crower and Titans are 8000 rpm friendly all day long That's completely incorrect. HKS officially say 7500rpm. It's a much better crank than the US stuff, and the pistons are much more sophisticated. They also don't use buttons to hold the pins in, which are horrible. Plus the HKS kit comes with Carrillo H beam rods. A race team in the US has run an HKS stroker at 9000rpm and it survived. Ken Henderson in the US has made over 1100 BHP (US BHP of course) with his HKS stroker, and I know he has a very high opinion of it.

The HKS crank is the weakest link, at higher rpm they snap as Leon (JPS) has proved TWICE.
jevansio
Regarding the HKS crank, from PHR's website comparing HKS & BC: HKS - +8mm fully counter-balanced Billet Aluminum Crank BC - 94mm stroke - Billet Steel Crank Why do HKS use an aluminium crank? All others use steel? Any thoughts on this?
Chris Wilson
HKS don't even make their own cranks, for a long time they were made here in the UK for them. I can get a stroker crank made in proper material if someone is really keen to make a long stroke engine even longer stroke Here's the one I had made for my Skyline engine:
Syed Shah
How much Chris? I would like to get a forged crank for the 1JZ, but keeping the stock 71.5mm stroke.
Joeatphr
Thanks Dan, appreciate the link, will drop him a line. I was leaning towards the PHR HKS Stroker shortblock & PHR Stage 5 head (all assembled in the US, fitted here in the UK). Hello Mate, We always have at least one on the shelf ready to go, no questions asked and can be shipped out the next day and have it at your door in a matter of a few days!! That is some hard service to beat. The PHR Stage 5 Head is always in stock, just need to let us know which springs to use and it will take the day to finish the assembly and will send it out next day! Let me know if you have any questions about any of the specs and I will be more than happy to help! Cheers, Joe

Syed Shah
About 1800 for a one off in decent material Cheers. I will be in touch about this in the summer, ready for a winter engine build.
Gaz Walker
The HKS crank is the weakest link, at higher rpm they snap as Leon (JPS) has proved TWICE. I do agree with that. Leon snapped 2. Another UK car snapped one, name escapes me. Titan replaced the crank in one car 3 times in a year plus several others. Gaz.
Gaz Walker
HKS don't even make their own cranks, for a long time they were made here in the UK for them. Did Farndon Engineering have a hand in that Chris? Gaz.
Chris Wilson
Yes, Frandon made them for HKS for a while, then HKS apparently found somewhere cheaper Farndon stuff is 100%, and they will make one offs, or use exotic steels, whatever the needs of the job, basically. Not quite as nice as generic Doug Kiddie stuff, but very good value for money, IMO.
