kieren1234
Problem: I have a problem with the e-manage blue. When the e-manage is plugged into the car, i have tried the connecting it to the laptop and opening the e-manage software (already installed) It then stats in offline mode and will not go online?? Does anyone have any ideas why and what am i doing wrong?? When installing the CD it asks for a verification number (i think that was what it was called) and i dont have one so just put a random number and it seemed to install ok......... Any help is greatly appreciated. The whole purpose of doing this is to get a base map onto the e-manage. Thanks.
Tricky-Ricky
The software install thing is normal, as for connection, i have to ask the obvious first, you have got the ignition switched on, and the light is lit on the emanage unit? kieren1234
Thats right mate. The light comes on and when you plug the USB into the e-manage, the connection lights begins to flash.
Tricky-Ricky
You may well have to specify a serial port on your laptop for it to connect, other than that maybe there is a problem with the cable itself, is it genuine or clone?
kieren1234
Thanks, we have put the USB to port 3, and also the e-manage to port 3 so cant be the problem. The cable and CD are genuine (i know the CD is and assume the usb is)
JustGav
The emanage blue doesn't plug into the usb on the pc.. it is a serial cable. The usb-looking port on the blue isn't USB in function. How do you mean you have the emanage set to port 3?

The usb-looking port on the blue isn't USB in function. How do you mean you have the emanage set to port 3? Well the cable i have is usb on each end, the big black part goes into the laptop and the other usb goes into the e-manage?? Definate usb ports. I have gone into the e-manage CD and loaded it up, then options, and select COM port 3.
Tricky-Ricky
Yes emanage blue does not connect via USB it definitely serial, the genuine cable is a kind of transparent which you can see the silver shielding through, sounds like its some sort of clone USB converter, the other possibility is that you have one of the fake emanages not made by Greddy:( Can you post a pic of the cable? Its definately a genuine e-manage mate, have the box with warranty etc. The pc cable has a usb on one end and another on the other end. It is a black cable so im assuming i have the wrong bable. Where can i get a genuine one from?? What is the sort of connector on the laptop end of the cable.
Tricky-Ricky
Thats very strange, when did you buy the unit and did it come with software and cable or did you get them separate?
kieren1234
I bought the e-manage and support tool off a guy on here and it all came as one so unsure about the cable. Do you have a picture of a genuine cable as i would like to see what the connector is like at the laptop end (e-manage end is usb??)

Swampy442
Further to this thread, same problem, doesnt communicate. Tried using the A/B cable but obviously that didnt work. I have the silver cable, the same as the one in the pic on this thread but the non serial end i.e. the USB end is the normal oblong shape, and there doesnt appear to be a place to connect to? Im guessing I have the wrong cable? Edited May 6, 2008 by Swampy442 (see edit history)
dini_the_owl
can i just add the emanage blue can connect via usb,as stated it is serial when you buy the support tool from greddy but mine was connected via usb by a seller on ebay, usb type a on both ends but emanage end had some electronics in there to make it work as it will not connect with a standard type a to a usb lead. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Greddy-eManage-USB-Support-Tool-Cable_W0QQitemZ260231384689QQihZ016QQcategoryZ52640QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 Edited May 6, 2008 by dini_the_owl (see edit history)

Im guessing I have the wrong cable? The E-Manage blue has a normal rectangular USB port on its front panel. The E-Manage Ultimate has the Printer USB shaped port (looks like a monopoly house ) and uses a normal USB cable. -Ian
kieren1234
To sort this i eneded up using the genuin greddy cable with the usb plugged into the e-manage, then an R232 (think thats what it is) cable plgged into the serial part of the greddy cable and the usb into the laptop. Works everytime.
