patrik
hello, i was at the harbor and picked up my new (used) supra as almost always the battery was more or less flat. had to tow it up on a tow truck to get it home at home we tried starting it again with a starter battery and it ran for a short while and then i decided to get petrol and charge the battery. since im a paitent man (not) i went and bought petrol and filled in 10 liters and removed the battery and put another in. first i managed to put the battery in with + to - in totally the wrong way (it was dark) and switch it around to the right way but no go totally silent. i then decided to wait for the original battery to charge up and it did today. i mesured the voltage and its above 12 so i put in the car. the car still wont start not even a turn from the starter motor. lights in car works and also headlights and the bing from the door but all instruments and motor are completly dead. i can here the relay of some sort getting jucie in the front when i turn key to start position but nothing else. help pls! I would check your starter relay. Alarm / immobiliser if not these then I it could be your starter motor, do you here a click when you turn your ignition. The sound you can here maybe the fuel pump? I had a similar problem in the last few weeks, I changed the starter motor and it fixed the problem.
stevie_b
It might be your starter motor contacts, a common and easily-fixed fault. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1717248&postcount=7 Read the symptoms in the links and see if they match yours. patrik
no clicking/ticking sounds :-( no idea if the car has alarm or imobilizer since i only got one key and it has no fob. on the other hand it should not have started yesterday then. and none of the instruments light up as it usually do so the starter motor cant be it i think (unless its faulty too)
stevie_b
If you don't get any lights on the dashboard and/or the stereo doesn't work, it very much sounds like a battery problem. Either the battery itself is duff, or it can't get the charge to where it needs to (e.g. bad earth, loose connections at battery terminals etc). If you can, try to borrow someone else's battery. I know that's not always easy though.
Jake
Did you actually connect the battery terminals when you had it in the wrong way? If so, did you try to start the car with it connected like that?
Matt Harwood
Did you actually connect the battery terminals when you had it in the wrong way? If so, did you try to start the car with it connected like that? That's what I was thinking. I'd start checking fuses if so.
patrik
yes i did try to start it that way where is those fuses? the battery is freshly charged and checked ´with voltmeter.
Matt Harwood
Firstly, look at the main fusebox in the engine bay. Directly behind the battery. I don't have a handbook to hand, but I suspect you've probably popped one or more of the larger fuses with the clear tops. I know someone that has done this before and he blew three fuses. Hopefully it's only that.
Sean1933
Im with Matt on this, def sounds like you have blown 1 or more fuses.
patrik
O yes i can see the blown fuse now (its daylight) and its in the fuse box just behind the battery. its the white one with clear top thats blown 120A (think its for the alternator) OK how the F... do i get it loose? should i get i loose or just open the top or somehow get the whole white fuse loose how how how? (it sitts hard!)
DamanC
Should be a fuse puller in there
patrik
lol i can see that but this is one of the big square ones not the ordinary.
Marty
Give your starter motor a 'tap', sometimes the solenoids can stick. Your alternator fuse wouldnt stop your car from starting, although you may have done damage elsewhere if you reversed the polarity
patrik
i now have mangaged to get the ALT 120 A fuse out. its in the top of the fuse box and white with a clear plastic top since it broke trying to pull it out i had to unscrew the whole box and found out that there is to screws holding the fuse under the fuse box (at least i think soo) after screwing them of the fuse managed to be pulled out after some ruff talk. at toyota they could not even find the fuse in their data system soo.......... story goes on :-)

patrik
hello guys, glad to report that it was in fact the ignition pack! i recived my other supra (which is identical but red). so i just took the bad box and put it in the working car and it didnt work and then i took the working box and put it in the no worky car and surprise it hickuped. it took 2 fully charged batterys and continues support car to actully get it running (puhhhhuuuu). once running i couldnt let go of the throttle because then it died but after getting it warmer i could take it for a creeptour around the block and after that it settled around 400 rpm and after some more prodding it stabilizedd on 650 rpm finally a working car! thank you for tips and suggestions along the way. stevie_b
Glad you got it sorted! I think you got off lightly when you connected the battery the wrong way round.
