Monitering AFR's and EGT's on a V8?

You might not see this if you blocked me but you can get dual channel gauges that average the two readings or display both, AEM do a dual channel Uego kit for example.... others do too.

Ive not blocked you bud, i take most things with a pinch of salt;)

Any links?

DM-100 Display gauge and control unit http://www.plxdevices.com/products/dm100/

SM-AFR http://www.plxdevices.com/products/sm/afr/

SM-EGT http://www.plxdevices.com/products/sm/egt/

Plug the AFR and EGT systems into the single DM-100.

All good :)

See here as well.

The PLX stuff does look good though, it's what I'm going if I do the twins because I don't like a lot of clutter in the cabin - a couple of the display units and lots of hidden controllers gives you a lot of monitoring at the touch of a button.

Exactly my thinking as well, monitor a lot, but only display what is relevant. No point in showing shedloads of info if it is all fine. The PLX does have an alarm option which allows you to flash the display as well the relevant sensor.

I'd like to see some tests against the more dedicated stuff to see what the accuracy is like but being able to fiddle with the display on a PC is a big seller too, no more struggling to find subtle gauges to match the rest of the lighting :)

As far as accuracy goes, I know the AFR uses the same sensor as innovate, aem and the like. It is the bosch one. The speed of little processors these days are into the Mhz so I can't see resolution being an issue. The only thing that bothered me would be the display in bright sunlight and readability. Pixel based screens are just never as sharp.

Hey guys, PLX stuff is good, am running it now. However you need to have a nice area to stick the mass of red boxes and cables. The DM-100 module and connectors on each side, and I don't know how to make it very neat as yet.

Am thinking under the stereo but it's going to be a tight sqeeze - I have DM-100, AFR, EGT and Fluid temp modules.

Some options may be under and around the centre glovebox. I intend on putting mine behind what used to be my passenger airbag.

I think I am going to do something similar. May mount a couple of modules in the centre bit, and extend the "headphones" serial link to talk to the main module under the dash.

Actually I am having a problem at the moment and it's really hard to diagnose. My EGT module is very intermittent - is all your stuff working OK or haven't you bought it yet?

Not ordered it yet. Busy chatting to them though to get some slight modification and an additional sensor :)

Maybe a question a for CW.

Would i just moniter one side of the engine or better to fit two gauges or can i fit two sensors to one gauge?

Dont really want to fit two of each gauge as i only have two 52mm holes.

Thanks

I am presuming that the two sides of the headers don't join?

Are there two std narrow band lambda sensors?

Does it also run two AFMs if not there is very little point in monitoring both sides as the ECU will just meter airflow for total intake and average the results for all cylinders, AFAIK.

AFM's are being removed when the supercharger goes in on the 29th.

It may have a header balance pipe, either externally, or through the intake manifold casting and also used as an EGR set up. If you put a wide band probe in each collector region, as near that point as possible, you should get a good idea what each bank is doing. How many narrow bands does it run now, one or two?
