sipstrassi
Does anyone know what the legalities are for the front number plate? After being told by you lot what an ungrateful sod i was, i am putting my new plate on my car. I want to place it where the red box is in the picture. It will be almost horizontal but will be a full size plate. Is it a legal place to put it? Thanks Pete

DodgyRog
I am wondering this as it seems a bit sketchy. I am fitting a new front end of Feb so am thinking of popping into a Vosa testing station and asking the Question. Gerry
CJ is obviously right but I've seen many like that at meets, some with smaller plates as well.
DodgyRog
I think its got to be clearly visible from 50 feet or something like that ??????
keron
i do know that if your car is a import model, you can have a no. plate the same size as the manufacturers plate holder. personally i would get a holder and mount it above where the red box is. (like where mine was on my old sup...)
sipstrassi
Thanks for that. Did not think of that one. Will pop over the road to the MOT place and ask them.

sipstrassi
Where can you get one of those brackets from?
SimonB
I think that would be legal, as long as it's a full size normal plate.
keron
Where can you get one of those brackets from? toyota about £17 i think....
SimonB
Oops, actually I didn't read the question properly, it wouldn't be legal where the red box is, I thought you meant where it currently is!
Daston
DVLA States this for Imported cars or Cars that do not have mounts for numberplates Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles (which have arestricted space for a standard sized number plate)Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval AND The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles) Character Height 64mm Character Width 44mm Character Stroke 10mm Space between characters 10mm link here http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf

Guigsy
best ever number plate fixing ive seen was a door hinge. verticle when parked... then folded up and away due to air pressure at speed. Inovative and cheep may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval AND The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates Its very easy to argue that everyones car can accomodate a standard size number plate. Even with a non standard bumper
