Agony Aunt section and Off-Off Topic.

To be serious for a minute I was thinking that it'd be good to have some kind of subscription mode (similar to subscribing to a thread) that allows one to choose which sections they see when hitting 'New Posts'.

For example: A tech-minded Supra nut might choose to subscribe to only Technical and Supra Chat. Clicking New Posts would show then only the threads and posts from their preferred sections. That way when they are looking for the thread 'Help my cars on fire' they don't have to read all the titles like 'Breathe In, Breathe Out: Which one shall I do next?' or 'Here's some pics of me drunk'.

If they did want to venture into Off Topic then they'd have to get there from the forum list.

Mawby, if you read this. Is there a plug-in that would allow this?

Now that makes a lot more sense then all the utter nonesense that was posted after your original posting.

In fact (refering to my above post) isn't there already something in place like I'm enquiring about?

With NWS you have to type the password to enter that section. When I recently cleared my cookies and cache I noticed that I was not getting any new posts from the NWS section. I signed in with the password and it now displays them no problem.

If this works like I think it does then could it not be added to Off Topic or maybe to some new sections such as TV/Film/Music or Personal Problems?

Complete and utter crap section perhaps... (I would of course contribute once in a while :p)

One more thing: Thanks for the new sig, Carl.

I'm sure this was discussed a while ago (not sure if it was in the mods section), but I can't find it now. IIRC the outcome was there was no forum hack for this so would need coding. I've stuck a new thread up in the mods section so Mawby can take a look into it.

Quite a few of the large forums have two off-topic sections, one for sensible discussions ("Off-Topic"), another for random cr*p, stupid threads, etc ("The Pub"). I'd personally like to see something similar here so those here who don't want to trawl through pages of nonsense can just ignore one particular forum.

Would be good if this could be set on a PC by PC basis.... or be able to set it for the session only.

Another question, does the RSS feed take this into account and not show NWS if you've not selected it?

Wouldn't normally bother replying to this but is it such a big problem to not read a thread you're not interested in or click on next page as you're browsing the new posts ?section? Off topic is pretty much for anything that doesn't fit into the Supra side of things isn't it?

Although any new posts in the pub section would still show up when New Posts is clicked. I, personally, use the NP button all the time rather than visiting section by section.

obviously the amount of random craps an issue, but i think as long as it is not taken in to the supra chat, tech avice bits and any other non off topic sections then its ok imo

ps is that what you just said Kopite?

Pretty much :D Just seems like a case of "i'm not interested in this so it shouldn't be on the forum or should be moved away from where my eyes shouldn't read it". Just don't open the thread, doesn't seem too difficult :)

i think the main problem was someone "bulk" threading the first thing that entered there head, think it will change though ;)

The problem with the amount of utter sh1te being posted in off topic is, that unfortunately the mods have no option but to wade throught the complete tripe being posted. (This isn't a shout for sympathy, just how it is.)

I never thought I would see the day when RedM would complain about the utter crap being posted.:D;)

However his point is valid. There is a need for off topic, it does spark some lively and interesting debate but recently.... FFS.

I'm with Red on this one. The amount of bollocks being posted lately is beyond a joke. I think the new sections should be called:

1. Help me decide everything in my life because I don't have the brain power to make a decision

2. I am an attention whore so please look at yet another load of bollocks I have just posted.

Catchy eh? :D

3. I am a F**king Yeng.
