God and the afterlife was imagined and sold to the world out of fear that when we shut our eyes for the last time we NEVER NEVER open them again, if you give it a little thought it is quite scary and is not hard to imagine why an afterlife idea exists in religion

I think it is tosh and you should live life for each day as it comes, we are only visiting, thats what I tell the GF anyway when I keep buying parts for the Sup :D

What makes you believe in God? Do you have relationship with him?

Does he talk to you and can you see him making changes in you life that can’t be reasonably explained? Has anything you ever prayed for come true?

Sorry for all the questions :)

Actually yes. I dont talk to god as but believe he is ther watching over.

I believe in heaven and hell and think we will all end up in one or the other.

I believe faith is important and can teach people alot about respecting your self and others.

I don't believe in God at all but i do hope there is something after death. I don't believe there is an almighty presence or anything like that but i like to think that energy doesn't just disappear, every action and all that jazz.

I do however like the idea of faith, i don't have any personally as far as god goes but i think its a very good thing for the people who do. If everything in life was negative there wouldn't really be anything to look forward to so when it comes to death it's nice to think that some people can have a different outlook to it other than worm food.

One thing i disagree with totally is religion. I detest all religion's because of the conflict it causes in modern society. Every war i have ever known or have heard of has been caused by a conflict of religious beliefs. There are a few other reasons other than the war's but as i said, i dont like to go into it. Steps on too many toes ;)

Oh i'm an engineer too and the egg came first. Started off with "fish" in the sea (not fish but you get the idea). They had spawn (eggs) and during evolution the young started to develop legs, then came the ability to breathe, then came land living (still laying eggs), eventually came the chicken but it wasn't a chicken, and it wasn't flightless. I think there is a theory that humans made it flightless and into what we see as a chicken.

Giving birth to live young came MUCH later.... from what i remember lol.

No to the current definition of a deity... as been said before, it is a crutch. Religion is nothing more than a global cult. Put the fear of something into people to get a worldly gain. As far as the afterlife goes, well I have a certain affinity to the quantum string theories and infinite string stuff. Deja vu and such things being intertwinnings on the string level, also explains physic abilities without completely rubbishing them.

Disclaimer : These are my views, and my views alone, not asking you to believe them, just don't force me to believe anyone else's either.

As a believer of Darwin's theory of evolution I think the egg came first.

I would say the chicken existed before the egg. In the earliest stages of life proteins and chains of complex molecules began to bond together creating single celled organisms which evolved into multicultural organisms becoming more and more complex as time went on. I doubt this process simply created an egg, more likely the earlier animals that chickens, as we now know them were evolving the best natural progression for them to be able to create offspring safely was to lay them in the form of an egg.

But also you can look at it in terms of the animal that we call a chicken today. The ancestor of the chicken was technically not a chicken, as we would describe one today, therefore the first chicken came from an egg created by its ancestor that wasn’t a chicken. It’s a matter of how far back do you go in the time line of the chicken and decide at which point was a chicken a chicken. From one generation of a species to another the genetic changes are tiny and it takes many years before they become distinctly different from one another. I don't think I've ever said chicken so many times in one post before, and hopefully never will again.

If anyone can make sense of what I've just written, please can you explain it to me, answers on a stamped addressed envelope!

That is all.

Science is interesting but can not explain eveything. Simple things like...What came first, the chicken or the egg? which is a classic.

sorry but chicken never came from fish, all fish never made it to land

the answer to which came first chicken or egg is both

evolution changes certain things in the DNA of both egg and chicken to suit its environment over the years

but the chicken and all birds evolved from dinosaurs

the first bird to be created which was the first dinosaur to have feathers was the

Archaeopteryx lithographica, which was around in the jurassic period aprrox 150 million years ago

all birds have the same traits of dinosaurs with two legs

the way they use their tails to balance, the fact that their hips are nearly identical and dinosaurs was only missing one bone to grow wings which birds have

since the extinction of dinosaurs aprrox 65 million years ago you can see in many creatures today a resemblance to the dinosaurs like lizards, the komodo dragon and birds.

iv been studying Paeleontology since i was 7 and being worked in a dinosaur museum for 6 years and then i joined the army

bit of difference i know

and to answer the god thing

i used to belive untill i started to read more into the bible and other texts and found it all to be confusing in the way its done, too many things dont make sense

there is ony one thing i disagree with is the church

its cashed in on the faith and religions of innocent people and then dictated what they can and cant do and what to belive in

I think the term 'believe' is a bit misleading as it infers some doubt in whether God exists or not.

For example I don't believe in my Supra. I know it exists. I can see it outside, touch it & drive it.

To believe shows there is no proof, just a feeling or a wish for it to be true.

My kids believe in father christmas, but we all know he doesn't exist!

Ah the old 'do you believe in God?' question...erm.....

No!

I also read Dawkin's book and liked it (although he does get slated a lot)

In the end if you don't believe in your self...you've got F*&k all to believe in! ;)

I am 100% a non believer...

But what I don't get is how the "Big Bang" happened. To have a big bang there must have been something before it...is it a cycle, Universe expands then cools shrinks and returns to the big bang?

But what happened before that cycle?? Where did the Universe come from? I expect the answer is it's been there "forever" but my head has a problem with infinity...I just can't my head round something just "being"....

That's something I cannot get either...

Nothing then bang... (pop).. cannot get round that...

So it was space dust then bang, what was before the space dust...

Hmmmmm....

"I don't know if I believe in God or not."

Is an odd wording - it sounds like, at heart, one must either believe in God or not, but they just don't know yet.

Whereas although I don't believe in God, I don't know for 100% certain that He doesn't exist.

(I also don't particularly care whether He exists or not to be honest! - if He really exists, he doesn't appear to give a toss about me, so why should I reciprocate? :p )

I am a devout agnostic.
