I knew about the right hand driving but wondered if the Cypriot Government was as strict on taxation of imports. Here, regardless of whether the car was bought and paid for and taxed etc in the EU, the Greek government insist on an import duty that equates to a high % of the original value of the car. In theory, it means we can only drive our UK cars here for 6 months before having to register them at an extortionate cost. :(

That used to be the case, but now importing from the UK has really picked up as the EU duties imposed by Cyprus are alot less than before and given the weak € makes sense. Plus, if you come from abroad to Cyprus you are allowed one car per person on a duty free basis.

The duty in Cyprus is mainly calculated on engine capacity and age of vehicle so every vehicle differs slightly anyway.

That is such a fairer system. I really cannot understand how the Greek gevernment can still authorise the extorionate duty to register a car over here - especially as it has already been owned and taxed etc in a fellow EU country.

Rant over :)

Because they operate a crooked and bankrupt economy and need every penny they can get!!

Cyprus is a far far far more advanced and wealthy economy!
